Product Questions

I'm considering assembling the XS standard irons for my 11 year old grandson. He is a pretty good golfer already, shooting in the 90's. I'm thinking he has outgrown the junior shafts. For shafts should I consider a steel shaft with a L or A shaft without tip trimming? Or what would you suggest.
Question by: Jim P. on Jul 30, 2014, 7:07 PM
Jim,

The Acer XS iron was designed for the broadest range of golfers, so I wouldn't have any qualms suggesting it from our line up. As far as shafts, the Apollo Shadow A/L steel is the lightest and most flexible of the offerings available. However, I would still tip trim according to spec to offset the head weights as well as not create unusual grip sizing.

What are the measurements of the blade length and the sole width for a 5 iron? And what are the same measurements for the Acer XS Pro model?
Question by: Markus on Jun 2, 2013, 3:01 AM
Markus,

For this iron, the blade length is 82.5 mm and sole width of 17 mm. The Pro model is 77.5 mm and 17 mm respectively.

When will there be more PW available. I was going to make this set for myself
Question by: Paul Cecil on Sep 28, 2014, 11:14 AM
Paul,

We are looking at about 10/17 for their arrival.
Answer by: Richard Lin on Sep 29, 2014, 11:09 AM
Is the standard club length listed in the XS iron specifications calculated with a graphite shaft or a steel shaft? If I'm assembling the heads using a steel shaft weighing 120g should my standard length be any different?
Question by: Mike French on Jun 20, 2014, 9:15 AM
Mike,

The standard lengths shown are with steel. We typically make the graphite shafted irons 1/2" long to account for swingweight. You should be fine with our standard lengths with a 120g steel shaft. Below 90g might be another matter.

As a general question about irons, do you recognize the MPF (Maltby Playability Factor) as an accurate measure of a club's performance? Have you ever considered employing that criteria or other calculation? I've noticed that only Maltby and the mass marketed brands are represented. I would like to see Hireko, Wishon and other credible players, too.
Question by: Bruce Ferguson on Sep 7, 2014, 1:02 PM
Bruce,

Their rating system will favor any club with a low center of gravity and one with a longer blade length. They probably would not want to measure our models as it would be an endorsement to purchase our products.

I am considering the XS pro but it has been a long time since my proper lie was examined. If I buy the standard head is it bendable 1 degree up or down?
Question by: Dave on Jul 20, 2016, 12:23 PM
Dave,

They are bendable up to +/- 2 degrees from the published spec.
Answer by: Richard Lin on Jul 21, 2016, 12:07 PM
In checking spec on Acer heads I notice that bounce angles differ from head to head. Some bounces increase one or two degrees going up from 2degrees for a 3i to 8 degrees on the 9i. On other heads starts with 0 degrees on the 3i to 5degrees on the 9i. I know the principles of bounce but wonder why the difference between heads, is higher bounce for higher handicaps?
Question by: Jimmy on Feb 1, 2015, 7:42 PM
Jimmy,

It all has to do with making some variety for different course conditions as well as how players hit the ball. Not factoring in sole width and sole radii (which is a whole other topic), lower bounce measurements would be better for tighter course conditions as well as a more level angle of attack. The latter is the reason you see less bounce in longer irons and more in the scoring clubs. But higher bounce isn't necessarily a handicap issue, it should be on a case by case basis.

Is the colored medallion in the cavity removable? It seems like it's epoxied in place. Although I'm a proud Acer owner I prefer the minimalist look.
Question by: Sergio s on Mar 2, 2015, 11:21 AM
Sergio,

It is not epoxied in place rather there is an adhesive on the back of the emblem that holds it in place. It is possible to remove using a small pocket knife and lifting from an edge. If you do remove the emblem, then you will have to figure out how to remove the adhesive that will stick to back of the cavity.

Are the lofts of the XS Standard stronger than the loft of an Iron made in year 2000? If so on average by how much?
Does the face have Flex Technology to help increase ball speed or maybe higher MOI?
Question by: Dave on Feb 19, 2015, 6:56 PM
Dave,

These don't have the "flex face" as you might see on the Dynacraft Prophet CB or Power Play Warp Speed irons. As far as lofts in 2000, they really weren't much different. I checked one of our older catalogs from 2000 and there are examples of irons with identical lofts as the Acer XS to ones that were weaker by as much as 5 degrees on certain higher lofted irons.
Answer by: Richard Lin on Feb 20, 2015, 6:02 PM
Aside from lie, can the head be adjusted for loft? If yes, how many degrees. Thanks, Mark
Question by: Mark on Jan 18, 2017, 7:53 AM
Mark,

We don't offer the service of pre-bending for loft, but yes, if the lie can be adjusted, so can the loft by 2º from the published spec. Note when you do so you alter the offset and bounce of the iron or wedge.
