Inconsistent Club
By Love this game of golfVerified Purchaser from CA on 1/21/2010
Cons:
Inconsistent Performance
Describe Yourself:
Golf Enthusiast
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This club is inconsistent at best. It just doesn't seem to compare to my friend's name brand club which has a very similar shallow face. The ball gets up in the air fine but left/right dispersion is terrible.

In addition the quality is something to be desired. Paint air bubbles that fleck off and sharp unpolished paint edges do not last long. I asked for a regular flex but I think Hireko shafted it stiff as it feels like stiff shafted clubs that I've had. Don't forget that non-standard clubs cannot be returned.

Assembled one with Acer Velocity shaft and Karma grip.

Square head makes it easier to align the clubface square. This results in more straight shots. I find aligning the face square with the traditional shape more difficult.

I bought the 3W and 5W and assembled them with my own grip/shaft. The first thing I noticed was the loud pop that you hear when you hit it. It's not as bad as I have heard from other square drivers, and friends say it is not annoying. It is different, though. There is such high forgiveness with this club that I don't know if I have ever hit it off center. When I have a bad day with my driver, I don't even hesitate to pull out this 3W to get it on the fairway and pick up a stroke or two per hole.

I picked up the 18* 5 wood head w/ an Appolo basic steel shaft. I tipped the shaft to playing length (4.5") as I have a fast swing & like firm feel. I hit maybe 20 shots off the turf just practicing. Club has a very nice feel, long & straight. My buddy hit a few shots, & he's inconsistent at best, with nice results also. I've built several clubs, this one does ALL it's supposed to. Only reason I did not give it a 5 is it's too early to tell if anything I don't know.

I ordered this with a stiff graphitye shaft to fill the gap in distance that I have in the bag. not only was this the best idea I have had for my fairway shots but I even use it off the tee and out of the rough. I have not had a bog shot to date.

I hit a friend's Acer Mantara 3 wood and it went straight down the middle. The following week, I used it off of the tee in a tournament and I shot an 84. I went home and ordered both a 3 and 5 wood after the tournament from Hireko. My two rounds of golf since I received them have been an 80 and a 79. I normally shoot between 88-94. My 17 handicap is already down to a 15. It is like a dream and I hope I don't wake up! WOW!

I can't say enough about my Mantera 5 wood. I replaced my very inconsistant Snake Eyes Fire Forged 5 wood with this. The results were immediate. I've hit 10 greens in the first 16 rounds. I play it from 200+ yards. Works great in the rough and the fairway. It's set me up for I don't know how many par saves as well in scramble situations. I used to hit a Driver and a strong 2 wood on par 5's. No more. Driver and 5 wood. It always sets me up for a GIR. It's got a funky sound but I love it. Sounds like a little league bat! Everyone I've played with says "I gotta get one of those!" after they see me hit it. Ball go far, ball go straight. Very forgiving and almost imposible to mis-hit. If you don't get great results from this club, see your swing coach!

I built the 3-wood with a Grafalloy Pro-Lite 3.5 shaft. It replaced my Titelist 3-wood I have hit since 2000. From the first swing it was the sweetest, straightest 3-wood I've ever swung. It is so accurate that I am going for our par 5's now that have water at the edge of the greens. Geat club.

I ordered this club with a cadence 65 high launch shaft. All I can say is wow. This is the most forgiving fairway wood I have ever tried. You can hit this thing from every where with the exception of a burried lie. (But that is why they are called fairway woods) Great feel and look.
