These were great irons at first. They have a wonderfully soft forged feel to them, and they set up with a nice traditional blade profile. They played great for a couple of months, but then I started to notice a loss of distance with almost every club in my bag. I had read about cracks developing around the faces of these irons from other reviewers, and lo and behold that's exactly what happened to mine - they are all starting to come apart where the forged face insert joins the body of the club. That's the downside of getting too fancy with an iron design and making a multi-piece head, you run the risk of those pieces coming apart. I think I'll go back to a good old fashioned one-piece head on my next set. The forged face didn't provide anything extra that you can't get out of a solid forged head, I just thought I'd save a bit of money by getting these rather than a fully forged head. But in the end it'll end up costing me more by having to learn the hard way and waste my money on these first. Maybe Hireko will give me a refund on them since I've only had them for about 7 months.
First got these and I was in love with them. Soft feel and accurate. Built them with a very light weight steel shaft from True Temper. Then the cracks started appearing, welded area seperating just like many others have commented. Had to pull the heads, send them back, and replaced them with stainless xp905 pro. Not as soft, but still good. Would highly recommend these, but not the welded model..
I GUESS YOU COULD CALL ME A CLUB BUILDING ENTHUSIAST. I ENJOY LEARNING AND TRYING DIFFERENT PRODUCTS. I HAVE USUALLY ALWAYS PLAYED A FORGED HEAD. I HAVE BUILT WISHON 550C, ALPHA RX-1, KZG FORGED BUT I LIKE THE ACER XP905 TOUR THE BEST. I USED THE APOLLO BALISTIC IN MY SET. BOTTOM LINE IS THAT I JUST PLAY BETTER WITH THESE CLUBS. I TRY OTHERS BUT I COME BACK TO THESE. VERY NICE PRODUCT AT A WONDERFUL PRICE POINT. THE ONLY NEGITIVE THAT HAS BEEN POSTED IS THAT THE CAVITY MAY RUST. BEFORE I ASSEMBLED MY SET I SPRAYED THE CAVITY WITH CLEAR COAT AND I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEM WHAT SO EVER.
finally convinced to change to backweighted, callaway styled clubs. love 'em. built two sets just alike, one at the club, one in the car. haven't changed all summer--a first for me.
Tried the Callaway's liked the feel but found these and got'em(love the look!!).I put these together with TT-Tx90's winn grips, after playing for SEVEN WEEKS I cleaned out the rust that was building for about a week and noticed that the 6I was cracked from the face at the curvature edge of the toe "TOTALLY SURPRISED & DEVASTATED". After close inspection, every single iron had a hair line fracture along the face. I thought I was possibly over-powering the clubs, but that's not it, just poor welding.I still love the clubs, best clubs I've ever wacked, just hope I can get them replaced.
Thought these may be the best irons I've ever played. Might have been if they would have held together. The forged face cracked around where the frame and face meet. One iron would have been a fluke, but every iron in the set developed the same problem. I think this iron has definite engineering problems. I was told to go to the 905 Pro model. I'm out the cost of assembly, bending, and freight back to get iron replaced. If you are looking at these irons go with something else.
These are the best iron I have ever owned! I've played both cast and forged irons more than 30 years, and forged feels better. But forged usually means harder to hit.
Not with these! These bring the best of two world's - game improvement and forged feel.
These irons hit the ball high and true. Seems almost illegally too easy to hit.
I too had the cavity rust on the rear of the face. I first washed with a rust remover used on guns. Then I used paint thinner to clean off any oil from rust remover. I taped the heads with masking tape and sprayed with clear laquer paint. Problem solved. This sealed the seam where the face and frame meet. I wouldn't have gone to all this work, but they are a decent set of irons. Wish the XP905 Pro would have been out when I purchased these. Even with the carbon face these do not feel like forged. If I have any more rust I will either find a set of XP Professional or XP905 Pro. These irons also do not create much spin. I was told that the cast version 905 Pro has sharper grooves. Can't sharpen these because you will create ...you got it....RUST. All in all just an average set of irons.
These are only the Cadillac of Irons if Caddy's rust their first time driven in the rain. I was forced to play one of my 3 allowed rounds in MB, SC in the rain. I covered my clubs that day and wiped off after the round. Went to play them two days later and most were rusted on the inside of the cavity-back where the forged face was welded to the stainless body.(On this note, Does anybody have a good solution for rust clean-up without ruining that Chrome Sheen?) Other than this though, an excellent feeling club 4-SW. I assembled these with Apollo Hump S's. Very Accurate. Distance was slightly shorter(5-10 yds) than my previous set, but those had graphite shafts.
Properly shafted, and bent to fit, these clubs perform extremely well.I'm 69 yrs. old and shot a 66 at the end of the season with them, hitting 15 greens.Very good in the wind.
Nice looking iron but does not live up to its forged feel description. My snake eyes 600XC have a much better feel, not even close really, but I think I do gain a few extra yards with these. It's still early in the season and around 50 degrees but the feel at this point is very clanky, especially on mishits. No question these are players clubs that have quite a small sweet spot. You definitely know when you mishit. The problem is when you hit it on the "nuts" you do not get that nice rewarding "buttery" feel you get with a forged iron, which is what I was really looking for with these irons. If you want a good looking iron that gives you comparable Callaway tour X distance, than you will be happy with these. But definitely don't expect a forged feel as described.
I now have played 20 rounds with these irons. Gone from 8hcp to 6hcp. The more I play these the more I get out of them. I have picked up 12 yards with each club. You can hit the 4 iron with the same accuracy as the wedge. Had to buy a wedge to fit between my gap and pw, because these irons are so long. No possible way of finding a more accurate, forgiving, better feeling iron than these. Only if I could putt with these irons, I'd be scratch.
I built these clubheads with true temper black gold reg. shafts and took them out to play nine holes.
after 4 bogeys I nailed 3 birdies, almost slamdunked a 180 yard par 3 with my 5 iron (first swing with that club) one over for the nine.
I wanted to keep going but it was getting dark.
I would recomend these heads to anyone and already have. great clubs
These irons are great. They are very forgiving for what is supposed to be a player's iron, and the forged face on the irons is one of the softest that I have hit. I have owned them now for about 7 months and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. They also stand up to bag dings b/c of the 431 stainless steel construction of the head. The face is carbon steel for that soft feeling we all love.
This head can compare to any FORGED head on the market including brand names. I've been building clubs for over 20 years and carry a single digit handicap. The feeling at impact is like hitting marshmellows. I have played all the brand names out there. This is the best head I've ever hit.......
Since installing the 905"s my game has improved 3 strokes a round. I'm now playing mid 80's regularly as I've gained 5 yards per club and am more accurate in hitting greens. These iron heads should rank with the very best OEM's out there!

I had tried out about 3 different sets of irons. I purchased a real nice set of Taylormade irons and they played real well however due to there offset I had a lot of trouble hitting the ball straight. So when I saw these irons constructed the way I wanted and with reduced offset I bought them. From the first day I played them when I struck the ball properly the ball went straight. No matter where you hit the ball on the club face you get no unwanted feedback coming up the shaft. This is a good design and a keeper.

I play to a 8 Hcp. These irons replaced a set of Calloway X Tour irons, that cost me $1000. They are longer and I have much more distance control. They have decent spin and the cambered sole is fantastic. Shafted with Rifle 5.5 shaft. They fly in the mid to high catagory with these shafts. Sold all other sets and these will be hard to pull from my bag. First round with these I hit 14 green and missed the first 3 by hitting over the green. Totally awesome irons. Try them and you won't be disappointed.
