very forgiving, started with a 28 handicap now down to 24 and still going down
The metal mfg. process is good, but the rubber backing serves no purpose and is glued down with cheap glue and comes off easily--I needed to glue several back in place. I have serveral other sets that I have constucted but this [set of
head(s)] is nothing like an (OEM) original equipment manufactured club.
These are by far the best clubs i have ever used i am 16 and i hit my old 8 iron about 145 and with a few swing tweaks and these irons i hit it consistantly 175 and straight. No More Slice. My old 5 iron was about 200- 205 now its at leats 220 to 225 i love these clubs deffonitly worth the little extra money
Simply stated, the best irons I have ever played. Acer has really outdone themselves with these clubs. They are a PERFECT copy of the Callaway's and, in my opinion, perform even better. I've hit them on the toe, heel and sweetspot with near identical results. Sweetspot hits are like warm butter, and mishits feel eerily similar. Expect big distance gains from these clubs. I've added 7-10 yards with each club (6i-9i in my set).
The whole face is a sweet spot. Easy to hit well. Minimal distance loss on off-center hits, but less distance loss than any other game improvement heads I have used on the marginal hits. Titanium face works. I have picked-up some distance with these, but am able to get great distance with less effort, which results in greater consistency. 150 yds. is my 8 iron now vs. the 7 iron with my old Clevelands. These will impart a draw. Not impossible to slice, but takes work. I use the latest Rifle shafts with Winn grips. The rubber backing? Just epoxied back on, no further issues. Overall the backing is no big deal.
This is an update to a previous review I entered for these clubs. I still love the clubs. However, I have started to notice rust forming on the wled point between the titanium face and the steel body. This appears to be rust caused by the welding of dissimilar metals together. The irons could be improved by first buttering the weld point with a metal that would prevent the galvanic corrosion.
Paint for grooves on 5 iron face came out while cleaning grooves with wire club brush. Suggest a soft bristle brush to clean the faces. I have gained 10-15 yards per club than my old Dynacraft DFS Irons. Even miss hits get more distance. Love the Sand Wedge.
These are fantastic clubs for beginning golfers. I bought these clubs with Grafalloy Prolaunch Iron shafts. Along with lifting weights, these clubs changed my 8 iron distance from 120 yards to 150 yards. They are great clubs for beginning golfers. They are forgiving on fat hits and the ball feels like it rockets off the face. However, a more experienced golfers may want to consider forged clubs. The titanium face gives great responsiveness, but you lose some feel. In addition, the wide sole decreases the workability of the club. These will be great clubs for the next 2-4 years. However, I will be switching to a less responsive more workable club as my swing improves. If you want a game improving club, there is no better choice!
My old 5 iron carried maybe 145yds. This iron carried 170 and only 10yds off line(TT dyna gold shaft R300 flex).
Acer XP905 has stability at impact. Heavy and thin shots give me as much as I deserve. The ball jumps toward the target quicker than my other irons. I got slightly more distance with this club and found it much more forgiving. The only negative is the club does not give you much feed back on mis hit shots.
