Acer XP Hollow Core Ti Face - Clubhead:Pushing the envelope of golf technology, the new Acer XP Hollow Core Irons bring your game to a whole new level. This unique iron features a hollow core stainless steel body which completely removes the weight from the center of the clubhead and allows for a more dramatic ability to expand the area of forgiveness. A thin, lightweight Beta Titanium face is welded to the frame to increased ball velocity coming off of the face. Finally, a unique rubber backing dampens vibration and improves both sound and feel. Note: PW and SW do not have titanium face or the rubber backing. They are standard cavity back irons. NOW 20% OFF!

Comments about Hireko TI3175:Acer XP Hollow Core Ti Face - Clubhead:

The Acer Ti wedges do NOT have the hollow core; they have a large cavity painted black. They look sharp, and have two outstanding features. In a world gone oversized, these wedge heads are not huge. Many of the large wedges lose short game feel, but these remain compact enough that you can use the clubhead and work the ball with those delicate shots. They are not compact; they just aren't enormous. The second feature is the 431 cast steel can be bent. Like many modern sets, there is a large loft gap between the P and S wedges. You can take a second P wedge and bend the loft to a value between the P and S, and create a G wedge with more bounce than the P, but still less than an S. The wedge clubs in this offering provide value and functionality.

Comments about Hireko TI3175:Acer XP Hollow Core Ti Face - Clubhead:

Prior research in the reviews indicated the titanium and 431 steel shell of the clubheads were OK, but the rubber vibration dampener on the back was poorly affixed, and sloppy in its graphics. These are BOTH TRUE. The glue that holds the rubber on the back of the clubhead is merely two-way grip tape. When it gets wet or hot, the glue simply releases. You get a sticky strip of tape, a clubhead, and a rubber strip - three separate items. Since it is hollow core, any face vibrations have to travel around the sides, topline, sole of the club before they can be dampened by the rubber backing. By then those same negative vibrations have also gone up the hosel into the shaft, because the hosel is closer to the face than the back shell of the clubhead. So the rubber would only serve to muffle a tinny or pingy sound. The paint fill on the face actually fills up the grooves, so it is good that it comes off and out. Without the rubber backing and the paint, the generic-looking clubhead is really quite appealing. Looks functional, no distractions, looks like a golf instrument rather than a marketing gimmick. Also on the positive, the nice wide sole allows the steel hosel to be bent for lie/loft (and the clubheads were way off spec before they were adjusted) without ruining the beneficial bounce of the clubhead. The P wedge can be adjusted to form a G wedge, which is not offered. And the sizes of the clubheads are not so big as to proclude you from rotating the toe of the clubhead back to square by impact. Get rid of the bells/whistles and use the generic portion of this club to do some serious scoring!

Lively face with big sweetspot. Not a lot of feel, but that's not what the titanium is for.

Comments about Hireko TI3175:Acer XP Hollow Core Ti Face - Clubhead:

I previously reviewed these club heads after making 7-9 and still like them. I added the 6 and the PW recently. The PW does not have a titanium face or the rubber insert, but is otherwise the same construction. It's a basic cavity-back head.
Another reason for posting a second review is that I've discovered that the irons are not as forgiving as I had thought. Smooth, solid hits towards the center produce straight and long shots. Off-center hits or poor swings produce dead shots. I suppose if you don't want a stray shot to go too far off course, this isn't a bad thing. It does inspire me to improve my swing, though. ;-)

HAVE ORDERED THE 5 THRU SW TO REPLACE A SET I NOW
OWN. OTHERS HAVE USED MY 7 AND 8 SAMPLES SHAFTED WITH SR POWERFLEX GRAPHITE SHAFTS AND MIDSIZE KARMA VELVET GRIPS. I'VE MADE CLUBS FOR OVER 12 YEARS AND I CONSIDER THIS A GREAT VALUE FOR THE MONEY. FEW USERS WOULD BE DISAPPOINTED.

Comments about Hireko TI3175:Acer XP Hollow Core Ti Face - Clubhead:

I built the 7,8,9 using Apollo Shadow steel shafts, trimmed regular flex. It finally warmed up enough outside to hit some balls and wow, I've never hit so straight so consistently with an iron.
The head is large and well balanced. While it looks traditional at address, looking at this club from the side, it reminds me of a cobra (the snake, not the golf club maker). It's lines are somewhat curved or hooded. It is more resistant to twisting than my old game improvement irons and has a large sweet spot. Even off-center hits went straight!
I can't speak to distance yet, as I haven't really hammered a ball with them yet. But with a smooth, normal swing, the club is comfortable and dead-on straight!
The rubber backs do seem a bit inferior, as they are not a great fit to the cavity (uneven gaps around the edges). Still, they seem to be in there solidly and if they loosen, I could always put 'em back in using shafting epoxy!
Overall, a nice clubhead!

Forgiving head but......

Comments about Hireko TI3175:Acer XP Hollow Core Ti Face - Clubhead:

Club head has a large forgiving sweet spot and makes for good shots on mis-hits. I cannot attest to longer hits with this head versus my older heads from another component company. When both clubs are hit in the center of the sweet spot, the distances are mostly identical. I am unhappy with the rubber backing glue and it makes me wonder about the quality control in the rest of the building process.

Comments about Hireko TI3175:Acer XP Hollow Core Ti Face - Clubhead:

Although I like the look and the feel, am greatly disappointed in construction--I have lost one reubber insert(the 5iron) and have two others that were coming loose and I had to re-glue. Also, the piping for logo on rubber was coming off. I like the concept but am not happy with quality. I could not think of any other way to fill cavity w/o rubber piece, so I filled with epoxy and painted in black.

I had been struggling with breaking 100 all last year and into this year. I started purchasing these irons one at a time to see how they felt and fell in love with them, so I purchased the rest of the set and broke 100. Soon after, I then broke 90! I admit, my improved swing probably had more to do with it than the irons, but I sure love the way they feel, sound and how the ball stops. The only negative is the way the rubber backing is secured. I think a better adhesive is in order because they peel off in the heat. I had to use acetone to remove the old gunk and replace it with rubber cement.

Comments about Hireko TI3175:Acer XP Hollow Core Ti Face - Clubhead:

Built these on graphite shafts just for fun and liked them as much as my Clevelands. I heard that the rubber damping application breaks down if the clubs are keep in heat (130 degrees) so take special care of them. Nice looking heads, great feel and distance. Another quality product from Acer and you can't beat the price!
