For instance, a driver is approximately 3 times the size of a #3 wood but has a much higher moment of inertia (MOI) making it more forgiving on off-center shots. Plus you have a large confidence-building, thin face that produces a spring-like effect right up to the legal limit for more distance. On the other hand, a 3 wood is more lofted and this cuts down on side spin for straighter shots, plus the shorter length enables you to have more control.
Why not just cut down your driver? It would be too light to effectively control. The Acer XDS Insider Thriver club head weighs a full 10g more than a normal driver to allow for a shorter, more controllable length that now has the proper amount of club weight. Plus we placed this added weight in a strategic location to produce an even higher MOI. Combine the higher loft (14º) of a stronger lofted #3 fairway wood and what you now have is the ultimate in control off of the tee.

After a 5 month winter Layoff, I was building confidence in just three holes. I used the Acer Velocity silver shaft, regular flex, 44" length with a Swing Weight of D4. In narrow fairways I had more control than my driver and at times I hit further than my 12* loft driver. I only wish my chipping would come back as fast as I got used to the Thriver. I've only been playing golf since I retired and as a Senior with a 28 handicap, I think this club will help me lower my handicap again this year.

I was disappointed in the loud sound and feel. Even though the loft of the club is as advertised it did not give me the trajectory desired. I will trade out the shaft but the loud sound will make this a club I won't use.

I built one of these on spec for a customer I knew needed just this kind of driver. Before I showed it to him, I played a round with it myself and shot my lowest score, ever! I only missed 2 fairways and all drives were playable. My intended customer hit 5 balls and bought it immediately.
I ordered and built another for my own use. I admit that I have hit other drivers longer, to be sure, but never with the kind of accuracy and confidence that the Thriver delivers. I even choke down and use it on a longish (for me) skinny par 3 where I usually play my 4 wood. I'm a 'hooker' who has always had trouble playing a deliberate fade. Most of the time, I over cook it and slice the danged thing. But with the Thriver, I am able to hit a high 200 yard controlled fade that has yet to miss the green on that par 3. I'm impressed and so are some of my buddies. I expect to sell a number of these once some of my customers wrap their heads around the demonstrated fact that the few yards they lose are more than made up by the Thriver's consistent accuracy.
I don't love the sound - never will. But who cares when this kind of performance is in the offing. Congratulations Hireko, on delivering exactly what you advertised.

I built it to 44" with a UST Proforce M3HL stiff flex shaft and Velvet grip. It looked great but I was unhappy with the performance. Trajectory was excellent but to the left. Difficult to set up open and sole it normally. It had an aluminum bat sound, which I don't like, when hit near the sweetspot. I wish my Dynacraft XMOI came in 14 degrees!!

Built to 44". Hit as far as any full length driver. Hit it straighter than anything I've ever tried. Increased loft did translate to ballooned shots. Had great trajectory. Excellent head.

THIS IS A GREAT COMPONENT. BE SURE TO INSTALL
A GREAT SHAFT TO GO WITH THIS GREAT HEAD.
MINE HAS A UST V-2 R-FLEX SHAFT 44 INCHES LONG.
I COULD NOT ASK FOR A BETTER SUBSTITUTE DRIVER.
THIS THRIVER DOES JUST WHAT IT IS ADVERTISED TO DO STRAIGHT DOWN THE FAIRWAY WITH LONG DISTANCE.

I built the thriver with a saber moi stiff mid kickpoint shaft. Very smooth. I see comments on loud sound on impact, I only notice it much if I mis hit the ball. If hit where it belongs It has minimal sound and I feel nothing. My only con is the club is not quit as long as the 10.5 XK but it is on the fairway much more often and saves me strokes. The confidence you feel when stepping up to the tee makes up for any of the cons I have, or have read in the reviews. Nice Club, to bad you can't keep them in stock.

I put this club together with a Candence Blue shaft, tip cut 5/8 in., and 45 in. length. Did not loose any distance and found most shots in the fairway or close by. The arc impression on the top of the head is a great reminder for my setup and takeaway. Great feel and the sound of the ball off the face is no different that a lot of the drivers on the market.

THIS HEAD IS AS DESCRIBED IN THE CATALOG.
GOOD DISTANCE VERY ACCURATE. I ASSEMBLED THIS HEAD USING A UST V2 SHAFT R FLEX. I HAVE AN 88 MPH CLUB HEAD SPEED DISTANCE IS JUST ABOUT THE SAME AS MY DRIVER EXCEPT I AM IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FAIRWAY

Built this for a high handicap friend. Usual ball flight was low, less than 15', with big slice when he finished on the backfoot. The 14 degree has helped his trajectory and when he connects on or around sweet spot he gets a nice power fade. Ideally and offset would help better with his swing, but he wasn't comfortable with look at address. Hopefully he will work on swing mechanics and enjoy club enven more.

I am retired. Iplay about 100 rounds a year.
I go one mount in south florida for golf during
the winter. The club look fine. But the sound at
impact is like you hit an old empty soup can.
I cannot hear that sound.

Built this driver using a True Temper regular flex steel shaft at 33" length with no tip trim. Phenomonal results. Very accurate, very straight, with a low, boring flight path. Have built a couple of similar "Thrivers" in the past. This one is a good 20 yards longer. Sound it makes when striking the ball is solid and assuring. Would highly recommend this driver to someone who has a problem with the longer length of conventional drivers.

I was a little skeptical at first about replacing my driver with a 14* club, but once I hit this club I knew it would have a home in my bag for along time. It is long and accurate. I might have lost 15-20 yards from my 9.5* driver but the accuracy I have gain by far makes up for distance loss.

Jeff Summit and team have really hit a home run. Paired this with a Aldila 65 Proto By You shaft. I normally build my drivers to 44.5" so went with 43.5" with the Thriver. C-8 swingweight was just great for me. Did not tip trim the shaft. I can say now after 3 rounds this is the best Driver combo I have ever built.
1. Trajectory was perfect.. which honestly was a concern with the 14 degree loft. Don't let this concern you. It is a boring trajectory and matches my normal driver (10.5 degree) length of about 260 to 275. But I was in the fairway 80 percent. Just like a 3 wood but about 20 yards farther.
2, Sound is pleasing
3. The swing plane relief on the head really does help you think and imagine the right plane. Like a little reminder everytime you tee it up. Crazy good idea! It helps!
4. Sole plate and body shape is very attractive. Setup looks square.
If this doesn't put Hireko on the Go to Golf club component mfg map then nothing will.
I have two orders already from playing partners that don't know a thing about me but when people see you hit those drives with such ease it;s an easy sale.

I built the Thriver for a friend and he imediately took his new driver out of the bag and is using the Thriver as a replacment. He claims that it is one of the most consistant clubs he has ever used. I put a "A" flex shaft on the head.
