I PUT THE MANTARA HEAD TOGETHER WITH A UST PRO FORCE 65 SHAFT AND A STRAIGHT GRIP-ONE GRIP. THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST CLUBS I HAVE HIT IN A LONG TIME. I SOLD IT TO A FRIEND OF MINE AND HE LOVES IT.
I built this club for a friend and customer and she likes it so well that she remains a friend. It is built with a semi-stiff ultra lite shaft 46" long.
added lead tape to the heel to straighten out a little push....
The square head does correct miss hits, and off center hits still travel a good deal. And being loud and proud it certainly is. I wondered about the construction. Sure enough, after 6 months playing with this club. the head cracked and split right on that nice aligning half moon shape.
Had a good stiff V2 66g shaft in it too.
Not sure about the construction, the hollow sound got me wondering what the seams are well done or not.
The sound is loud, the loss of 15 yards off the tee is the most disturbing. I love the Mantara fairway woods and hybrid irons- they do hit much longer. I went back to my knock-off 12 degree T7 driver.
I love the concept of square drivers and this one certainly delivers on the accuracy and the distance. However, I just can't take the sound. Standing on the driving range I feel that I'm disturbing everyone there so I'm very hesitant to practice with it. It has remained in my car most of the time... It's a great club, but you'll have to be willing to take the VERY loud noise.... (this is the ONLY reason for me not recommending it)
Never carried driver before. Tee shots either quail high or OB right. Always hit 3 wood. Figured 250/260 was good enough. Assembled 10.5 degree at 45" with Aldila VX. 290/300 in fairway is lots better! Only disappointment is deciding which club to drop from my bag because I'm carrying driver now. The sound reminds me of a cash register ... when I collect the bets at the end of the round.
I like the distance and accuracy that I get with this club so I will put up with the sound.
Always thought that the new square shaped drivers were designed for the high handicap player that had trouble finding the center of the club face. Also I felt that the workability of the golf ball would be reduced for the skilled player. I was wrong in both cases. I put one of these together this past Friday and put it to test the next morning and was very pleased with the results.
I have played with a Titelist 975J for years. I build clubs as a hobby and I'm always looking for something better. I generally go back to the 975J. I built the Mantara as a lark. I used a Graphalloy Pro-Lite 3.5; 46.5" in length; D-8 swing weight. I don't think I hit the Mantara any further but it is extremely accurate and consistent. My second round with it I missed only one fairway. For our course that is remarkable.
The sound: Now that was annoying at first. My friend said it sounded like "a cricket ball struck by an empty Guinness bottle." He may have something there. After using it now the sound is only annoying to my opponents because it usually means another fairway hit. The 975J is in the garage for now.
I have an old Spalding set that I bought [...]. For me this set just fine except for the driver. I have never been able to hit a straight shot with it. With the Acer Mantara XL Titanium Driver, I now hit it long and straight. And the sound it produces is awesome. I love it.
Hitting longer and straighter off the tee than ever, however I find the loud sound very annoying.
Okay, it's promoted as being Loud and Proud. It lives up to the claims. I've now played with the driver and the square fairway woods for four rounds. Each round I learned better how to align myself with this new club and the ball and go for the fences. I'm getting control of this driver faster than any previous driver. I have not lost any distance in the meantime. I haven't yet gained any distance, but I'm confident that I will. I will return again to review later in the year after I get in more rounds.
I just like the look and feel of this driver. If you think you can hit it you can. I liked the driver so much I purchased the matching, 3, 5 & 7 fairway woods. I now play all Hireko clubs, driver thru sand wedge and will soon be buying a putter.
Hitting the tee shot longer than ever
Not as good as the original, in my opinion, but still a nice club. I found it a little less forgiving for my swing but long and straight most of the time
This driver is a very poor representaion of similar and more expensive drivers. The action of the ball off of the face is not even close to most any other driver I have ever used.
I like the way it looks. Sound at impact was loud but when you see where your ball lands after a relatively easy swing you quickly get used to it.
This club was everything I hoped it would be. I put a True Temper tx 90 steel shaft in this driver and it is extremely accurate in the fairway and very long. If I had put in a graphic shft I am sure it would have gone even longer. It is a great club. Don't hesitate to purchase this head.
Hits the ball as long as other drivers I've tried, but this driver hits the ball straighter than the other drivers. So if long and straight is what you want give the Mantara XL a try.
I find this head to be very reassuring visually at address and, combined with the proper shaft, has a comfortable swing quality.
If you want to hit it straight, this is the club. It's a little loud when hitting but they know your coming..Love the club.
