Great irons for casual golfer trying to improve their play. Just more enjoyable to play now. The longer irons get me to the green in two on par 5's (not possible very often with my previous set of discount irons). Don't hesitate on these if you hit hybrids better than your irons.
I'm not bothered at all by the extra metal behind the club when you line up to the ball. On the contrary, the wide sole seems to prevent the club from digging into the ground if you are a bit off with your swing which gives you extra confidence.

Flat wide soles really help on fat shots. SW a little to much bounce and a little to upright for my set up on most irons. Big surprise was the excellent square up at address. Usually do not like off set but these help keep hands in front and hit almost like a knock down shot. Lot's of confidence and surprising the visible wide soles do not distract.

A consistent 170-200 yard from the tee, down the middle. Will save a mediocre swing, won't save a lousy swing. Replaces driver through conventional 4 iron, perfect tee club in travel/sunday bag.

These irons are fine for a beginner. The 3 iron sounds like hitting an empty tin can when you hit it. I hits fine but sounds funny. The others are fine.

These irons work like I expected them to from the design and description. I've played several different iron and hybrid sets, and it was immediately obvious that these get the ball up easier than others I've tried. Getting the ball up easy is a plus, but since I don't have a problem getting the ball up it's caused a bit of adjusting. My first shots with the 3 iron were flying as high as my last set's PW. If you have no trouble getting shots up, you might consider a low-trajectory shaft to keep the overall height down.
Also as expected, these irons fly very straight for me. I don't mean every shot stays in the fairway (that would be nice!); I mean the ball goes in the direction of the clubface at impact and doesn't turn much. If you get the clubface pointing close to the right direction at impact, they seem to stay on the line well. Thus there is little workability, so if you prefer to turn it you should probably look at different irons.
Something you can't tell from the photos is these are *very* chunky at address. You can probably imagine how the flange of the extra wide sole looks sticking back there. You can see that at address at least until the 8 iron. Also, the top line is really thick. You can't help but noticing you have a massive chunk of steel behind the ball. Whether that's good or bad is up to your own preference. I imagine it isn't a factor for many people.
The only negative for me is the sound of the 3 and 4 irons. I don't know if it's the wider soles or the shorter face heights, or both, but the sound of these two clubs is much different from the rest of the set. It's different from any clubs I've ever played, and the people you play with will notice and comment on it. I'm going to give it more time but I'm sensitive to sound and probably will switch the 3 and 4 out for some Acer XDS Wide Sole Hybrids I have, even though I think the Cabriolets are better clubs. However, I'm not recommending you skip the 3 and 4 if you're buying the whole set. The cost per head is so low that I think you should get them all, listen, and decide for yourself.
Overall, I like these irons a lot. They give a lot of confidence after you've hit them a while because you know the ball will get up even with a bad hit and it will stay on line. If you prefer straight shots to working the ball, and the unusual impact sound of the 3 and 4 doesn't bother you, these may be the perfect irons for you.

Very accurate short irons. Good impact feel for mid irons. Design help to improve consistency.

I bought this set because I have a had time hitting iron. They seem too make the game a lot more fun. Also got tired of buying high dollor iron to find out they lost all of there value two weeks later.

The 3 Iron works great getting the ball out from under low tree branches. I need this club!

Matched with TX90 steel shafts, r flex for a 68 year old attorney. Hits the 5 iron 175 and it stops dead on the green...he gave up his OEM high priced irons for these and has taken 7 strokes off his game. Of course these were correctly fitted.

The iron was nice. Was not better than my old irons. The look of the 7 iron was not for me. It looked too much like a hybrid. If the look does not bother you this would be a very good game improvement iron.

Definitely a game improvement iron. Hard to not hit it somewhere near where you aimed. Thin hits sound like a driver, though.

I am a Tech Analyst by profession and, personality. I've used this 5 iron for most of a year now to see if I'd like to treat myself to a new set of 'em. When I've pulled that club out of the bag, well, it's like puttin' your favorite drink to your lips; it just AIN'T gonna let you down! I've been swingin' clubs for over 40 years; all shapes and sizes, this club has yet to go errant on me, HONESTLY. I've probably hit this club 100+ times over the past season and, even at the expense of a good friend's knoggin (I was a 165 yds. out and he was pullin' the flag; yeah he lost track of me...until another perfectly hit 5 iron XDS...POP, a very bad moment following another near-perfect shot!!). Don't know what to say folks...I am ecstatic over what's ahead for me and this crazy game after I finish buildin' a set of these XDS' (on the end of the Phantom Shaft)! Excited? OH hell, I am goin' friggin' nuts waitin' for the season to get into full swing! My many, many golf buddies can't believe their eyes.

With the larger sole the club becomes much more forgiving and I divot much less. I built these irons for a client and he stated the above remark. Dr. J

Senior golfer not quite making as good contact as when younger, this iron really helped me.
Comments about Hireko I252A:Acer XDS Cabriolet Iron - Clubhead:
I purchased and assembled the set of irons several weeks ago, after playing with the set, I was very happy and surprised how easy the clubs hit with good distances and accuracy. The only con I have about this heads are the 6 thru 3. That at addressing the ball the bright and excess mental from the flange was quite distracting to me. After painting the inside of flange black this corrected the distraction, making the eye and brain thinking I'm hitting a hybrid. This is something that Acer should look in correcting; for sure clubmakers. Matching this head with the new Apollo phantom shaft is golfer dream come true.
A simple hint for graphite user that afraid of vibration just insert 3 or 4 foam shaped ear plugs that you can purchase at sporting goods store. Make sure a couple drops of super glue is applied for security, fitted with a Karma grip, you have club that will match any name brand on the market. Happy Golfing from Polarbear.
