I've used the old tape, this new tape, and tape from most other suppliers. Once you get used to a new "tool" you use it just fine. Actually, it's thinner and can cover old tape w/o much change to grip size. Not sure why a 30 year veteran builder would complain about this tape, you get supplies all over the place and make it work.
Now that I've gone through a few rolls of this one, I actually prefer it. Works great, normal amount of solvent (and be sure to pour solvent into your grip and THEN pour it out onto the taped shaft, it flies on!
Grip installation Hint: just start the grip on the butt end of the shaft, then cover the grip hole on the butt end of the grip while you slide it on, and the grip flies on because the air pressure stretches just a tad and the grip zips on!

I am not sure what the other reviewer's are complaining about? I have been using this same tape for over two years and I love it! I dont find it hard to use at all? In fact it is much easier to use than the old tape you just have to change the way you are used to doing it. With this wider tape first of all there is no need for wraping the tape. Here is an easy way to use the tape. First I measure the grips length and cut the tape x2 of that measurment. For example most grips measure around 10.5 inches so I cut the tape at 21". Then I fold it back on it self to put a crease in the middle. Then just stick the middle (where the crease is) right over the end of your shaft and run the tape down the middle top and bottom of the shaft. Then take any piece of metal (coin, cut off shaft waste etc.) and rub one of the corners of your tape on that. Then just simply pull back the top layer of tape and wrap the tape around your shaft. Now take your gip and cover the little hole with your finger and add some distilled water or gripping sovent into the grip, put your thump over the big hole and swish the water a round a few seconds. Then empty the sovent/water onto your tape and slide the grip on. It takes me less than half an hour to re-grip a entire set of clubs using this method there really is nothing to it so I am a little puzzled as to why the negative reviews?

The waste layer of the tape is hard to peel and doesnt always come off clean. The old style tape was much easier and faster.

This tape is hard to use.You have to use more solvent or the grips won't slide on, you have to be fast.I've been putting on grips for 30 years, and it took me twice as long using this new type of tape compared to the old two sided masking tape. It takes a lot more strength and energy to slide a grip on with this tape. I wish I could find some of the old tape. It's easier to work with.

I like this tape alot. I have used tape from 3M, Golfworks and Golfsmith. This tape is as good or better than them all. It is very sticky and not to thick, activates quick and stays put. The price can not be beat...rubish, far from it!

I love this tape. I used to use another brand but had problems with grips staying on after a couple of months. Not this tape. It is all I will use.

I disagree with the previous review - this is EXCELLENT tape! I own a golf shop where we grip at least 100 sets of clubs a month (so a total of 800-1,000 clubs per month), and this is the only tape that I will use. I have tried others, but I keep coming back to this stuff. It is easy to lubricate, so it doesn't need a ton of solvent to slide the grip on. And it dries extremely quick, so the clubs are ready to hit within 10-15 minutes of gripping. The only negative that I can think of is that it doesn't stick really well to build-up tape, so if you do a lot of gripping with build-up take then it might not be the best choice.
