In the reviews for the Acer XK fairway woods, Professor282 writes...all have a closed face angle.... Hireko specifications for the clubs are, .5º open for the 3+ and square face angles for the others. I want to replace my Bang SF fairway woods and I'm looking for a truly square face angle and some face progression. I, simply put, cannot set up properly with a closed face clubhead.

Be careful what others may post. The reason is there is a difference between a square face angle in a specification gauge and square appearing clubhead at address. For a long, long time wooden woods where made with an open face (@2*) so at address they looked square. A 0.5* open face angle is not much different than square, which for some will look slightly closed. But sitting a 13* XK 3-wood I had here in the office definitely did not look closed like a lot of the fairways I have seen.

I would have to say the 3+ wood is definitely slightly open to square. I have no way of measuring but I hit a draw with almost every 3 wood I have (and others that have gone on). I just put together an Acer XK 3+ wood for a friend and we both hit it at the range a few days ago. Every shot was dead straight for me.
I will say the Caiman Raw Power 3 wood is longer. I have a Matrix shaft (Jeff, it's still hanging in there!) in the Caiman versus a UST in the Acer XK which may contribute somewhat. Both are very nice clubs but I have never hit a Bang to know differences there. My friend wanted a go to club off the tee for short par 4's and narrow fairways and that's why he chose the 13 degree 3+ wood.

Thank you both for your input. When I assembled my Bang SF fairways, I was looking for a larger clubhead with a square face angle. They still perform as they did back then. They do not have, variable face thickness and other technical improvements. They are similar in state of the art technology as the Hireko XPs but with a larger clubhead volume. The lofts of the of the 3 and 5 Acer XK fairways are the same as the Bang SF. The Acer XK 7 is 1º degree stronger than the Bang. The Bang 7 wood is taken out of the bag and replaced with a 2 XP Hybrid when the rough is up.
When I decide to take the XK plunge, I will use the Proforce 75 Gold shafts I have in my Bangs. The Bangs are almost blind bores but I will not trim anything from the tips. I know, by doing so, it will make the shafts play a liitle softer but that's ok, I was born in 1955 and my swing has lost some of it's speed.
What headcovers are suggested for the XKs?
