Jeff,
I have a friend in his late 50s with a driver SS of 77mph and a desire for more forgiving irons with higher trajectory. He would like 3,4,5 hybrids and 6-P irons. He has settled on the Q2 irons and is undecided between the Q2 hybrids and the System Q hybrid irons. The advantage I see for the Q2 hybrids is that they are heavier and can be built at standard iron lengths vs the lighter and longer System Q hybrids. Is this a legitimate advantage? I am planning to build the set at std length and A flex. What shaft would you recommend and would you recommend it for the entire set - hybrids and irons?

Dave:

It really depends on what the goal of the golfer is. If it is more distance, the lighter and longer lengths of the System Q may provide that. But if solidness of contact is the objective then the Q2 might be better advised. The only other difference between these two heads is the Q2 tends to be a little more draw biased, so if he tends to fade or slice the ball, this may be an added plus.

I am not sure if you want to use steel or graphite shafts...

You might look at the Power Play System Q as this can serve as an iron shaft as well for hybrids. These are very lightweight shafts, so standard length might be 1/2" longer than steel if you are trying to target a specific swingweight, otherwise you may want to use tip pins to increase the head weight.

Jeff,

How about the True Ace Cadence Blue Iron/Hybrid
Model : GS903A? Only the A/L is in stock, but I could trim +1" from the A flex to get a flex between A and R, which is what I am looking for. I would use the same shaft for the entire set (Q2 hybrid 3-5 and Q2 irons 6-P) and tip trim accordingly. Also, what is the recommended ferrule for the Q2 hybrids and irons?

Dave:

The problem with trimming more than call for it that you could run out of parallel tip section. You could try it's predecessor shown here:

There was an option to cut this to a soft R-flex.
