Jeff,

I am considering building a new putter for myself. I currently use a center shafted mallet. I am looking at the CB4 and CB6 heads and I have a couple of questions. Do the specified weights include any weight screws, and if so, which ones? I assume that these heads can accept the heaviest (longest) weight screws you have available, true? What shafts are recommended for these heads? Are there MOI numbers available for these heads?

Further, do you buy in to counter-weighting putters? If so, do you have any advice for where to start weight-wise. Also, what do you consider an appropriate swing weight range for putters?

The weight of the clubheads are factored in with the screws installed. In the CB4, the screws are 10g each and the CB6 has 12g screws installed. The MOI of the CB4 is 7736 and the CB6 is 6788 g-cm^2.

I was the person who pushed to have the counter weights made and brought in for sale. For the putter, I might suggest the heaviest weight (24g) for the putter to see how it works. Throw out swingweight for putters. You might find something that works for you through trial and error, but it probably won't be the same as your regular irons. My two gamers happen to be both F1.

Thanks for your insight, I am going to try counterweighting the new stick. Could you also give me the MOI for the CB3 head please. That is a very interesting design as well.

Jeff,

I went with the CB3, very cool looking head. I ordered the recommended shaft and it works perfectly. Only problem is the recommended head cover is not close to fitting. Since the CB3 is basically the reverse shape of a typical mallet, what would you recommend for a head cover? I would hate to see the great looking finish on the head get dinged-up without a head cover.

I have one of the CB3s in my personal collection / rotation (big surprise 'eh?) and the putter cover fits fine. It is a little tricky at first, but it does fit.

Jeff,

No, the link in the CB3 head description connects to the KT01BW, which is what I ordered. I don't even find the KT01CB when I filter the head cover list for putters. Man, I wish I'd seen that one!

Well Jeff,

I feel like a bit of an idiot, as I see that head cover easily by scrolling through them instead of searching for putter head covers. Lesson learned, I'll order one whenever I have a few other things to order.

Jeff,

Bought the correct headcover and it fits like a glove.

In building the putter I am trying counterweighting as you implied it can be beneficial. So far, so good. What are your thoughts on radical counterweighting as with the "heavy putter" models where a "mid-weight" model has a 400g head and a 200g counterweight?

Glad to hear the putter will stay protected for some time.

There is a threshold where you get to regarding backweight and each person will respond to it differently. I had at one time our Karma Supra putter grip which weighed a little over 200g and I have taken standard 80g putter grips and added 125g at the butt. These worked fine for me as long as the greens were fast, but as soon as the green slowed down I couldn't get the ball to the hole.
