A local dealer recently replaced grips by inserting air pressure thru the grip and pushing the grip on the shaft without the use of water or solvent. He claims that you can use the club as soon as he is done. has anyone had positive or negative experience?

I have used the pressurized air for installation of grips on last two sets but without using more water/mineral spirits, the grips was very hard to seat fully against butt of shaft. Are there any issues if more water or a longer piece of masking tape is used? The only thing I noticed was an increase in drying time for grip to set-up adequately for play.
Appreciate any feedback from fellow clubmakers!

You should not need to use any water or solvent to install these. What I do is use a piece of masking tape to seal the butt end of the shaft. I dip just the tip of the grip into a soap solution (childrens bubbles work well). This only aids in starting the grip over the end of the shaft. Once this is done, I use short bursts of air while I gently apply pressure to the grip to slide it on. I have not had any problems with the grip being completely inserted onto the shaft.

Thanks for the feedback, think my problem was related to the quantity of air associated with the short bursts.

Could someone give a short install procedure? Do you need to use tape when using the air install method? I've heard of people not using tape, not sure how the grip would stay in place during play with this method? Also how far does the opening of the grip need to be on the shaft before applying air 1/4", 1/2"?

Actually, I have done it both ways...with tape and without. The one thing to check before starting the grip is the shaft diameter at the top, middle and bottom of where the grip should finish on the shaft. If the shaft diameter is small near the bottom of the grip (less than .550 in diameter), you might need to put a layer (or 2) of masking tape in the bottom half of the grip so that there is no looseness.

Also, I have had trouble installing Winn grips using the air method. If anyone has a solution, please let me know.

Cost is $39.95 plus shipping. Be sure to ask for their "sleeve" to put over the grip when using this method for grip removal.

I have "blown" grips off for over 15 yrs. You can make a protective sleeve by wrapping nylon strapping tape around the cardboard tube aluminum foil or plastic wrap comes on.
I have never installed grips with air (I'm going to try it.
I have installed grips using liquid dish soap on a bear shaft and although sometimes a little messy works well.

Jeff suggested to me a while back to use Windex with amonia. It works well. With the air compressor, I just spray a little on the inside of the tip and it tends to go on just fine.
