I have a young woman who is just starting and shoots around 115 now. Much of her game is fairway 3 wood play. This is very hard for her. Can you folks suggest a very forgiving/easy to hit 3 wood head and shaft combo? I am at a loss... God bless, Gary

I don't quite have enough information to answer your question. It she trying the hit a 3 wood all the time because she is so far from from the hole? Has she tried hitting higher lofted fairway woods like 5 or 7 woods instead? I am assuming she cannot hit the ball very high, is this correct? Lastly, how strong is she as shaft fitting is all about strength and not age, sex or handicap?

She is a new golfer with "A" flex club speed. She needs to hit a 3 wood on almost every hole because her drives usually go around 175 yards. She does hit high when she connects but that almost never happens with a 3 wood off the fairway. I was hoping to set her up with an easier to hit fairway wood to help with her discouragement factor and then gradually move her up to a 5 and then a 3 wood. She is a strong young athletic woman about 5'8" and 145lbs. I was thinking about the Caiman 7 wood with a low kick graphite shaft to get started. What say you?

The Caiman would be as good as anything we have as we took as much weight out of the crown as possible and moved it to the bottom to get the ball airborne. We have a number of low kick graphite shafts in A-flex. If you wanted something with the Power Play name to match, you can use the System Q shaft (code GS6862-001-WAL).

I have a friend who's 4'11 and used to use a 7 wood for all her longer shots. Off the tee and fairway, she could hit it between140 and 150. 7 wood is a good, comfortable, diverse club that should be short enough to control easily.

I don't know many average golfers who can consistently hit a three wood off the fairway. Most women have much more sucess with a 7 or even a 9 wood from the fairway. If she could hit a 7 consistently and keep it in the fairway her scoring would inevitably go down even if it took one extra shot from the fairway. She would certanly go down from 115 if she can putt!

I would suggest that she have a "confidence club" like a 9 wood, or a highly-lofted hybrid (25-35 degrees). This would be a club she will go to after that 175 yard tee shot (which is pretty good for a beginning golfer's drive!)

I would think that if she hits this fairway club w/ decent contact she should get about 140-150+ yards, thus setting up a third shot to get on the green potentially. The higher lofted club will have much more success in getting the ball nicely airborne that she will set up with more confidence and should get more consistent in how well she strikes it. As a new golfer, she does not need to hit 3 wood off the turf (it's such a low percentage shot for most golfers). Rather, if she hits a ball that gets up and carries in the 130-150 yard range, she will advance the ball and even if she hits that same club one more time to get on the green, she's either on or very near the putting green in 3 shots! Her score will drop dramatically from the consistently, The distance will come where she could add a 5 or 7 wood later on to get more carry so she would set up a short iron . . . later.

Can't go wrong with a 30 degree hybrid in your bag to make the ball move even if you aren't making perfect ball contact.
