Can you use a tube cutter to trim a graphite shaft? I've seen wheel replacements for exactly that purpose, but I've heard others tell me to absolutely NEVER use a tube cutter on graphite - special wheel or no special wheel... So what's the real story??

Until the day I find a specialty tubing cutter wheel designed to safely cut graphite shafts, I will be in the camp that say NO to ever using a tubing cutter with graphite shafts. Make sure to ask the people that sell or recommend one if they will warrant any shaft that cracks as a result.

I've seen these too but have never used one. I think they would be too rough on the shaft as you turned it and might tear more than cut. I've used a grit impregnated blade for a hacksaw framewith no problem. But the best method has been a chopsaw with metal cutting wheel or a similar small diameter wheel in a handheld grinder. Remember to use masking tape wear the cut will be made.

Thanks genter for the suggestion. I guess the tape is for holding the piece and making the tear less. But can a metal hand saw can be used?

The tape is for reducing splintering of the shaft. The metal saw (frame) can be used, but not a standard hacksaw blade they come equipped with. You need a special non-serated blade to safely cut the graphite shafts with.
