What were the shafts?

Jeff,

A while ago you wrote a blog on new shafts that had torque values of 9* and 7* but were made with high modulus material, and no fiberglass. You continued to state that even with the high torque values the shafts performed very very well. Can you tell me what those shafts are? I'm willing to give the shaft a try.

Thanks

Charles:

They were the Apollo Masterflex HP44 and 48. These shafts definitely do not play or feel like their numbers would indicate - in a good way too.

Hi Jeff,

So about a month ago I took a chance and bought a Masterflex HP48 Stiff Shaft and a Dynacraft XMOI 10.5* Driver head. With the Driver cut to 44.5" a 5 gram tip weight and reg Golf pride Tour velvet grip the swing weight ended up at about D2. So my first impressions of the shaft was "Man the looks beautiful and Oh my god it's so light will it break?" The other thing that kept messing with me was the torque value. Well to make a long story short, I believe that this is the best shaft for it's weight anywhere and torque was not even an issue! Ball flight was perfect! This shaft absolutely rocks so much that I'm putting on my backup driver. In the month I've used the club I've gotten more distance and gained more control. I totally love the way the shaft looks, and toughness has not been an issue. I also let at least 12 friends all with different swing speeds(from 85 mph to 113 mph) hit the club and they all say the same thing "I really like the way this shaft feels". It handled all those swing speeds like a champ. We also tested it against other drivers, like Titleist 909D2(Diamana Blue), Taylormade R7, R9( Reax shaft, Aldila Voo Doo), Callaway FT9 Draw(Fujikura Fubuki), and a couple of Pings. All the owners of those OEM drivers were so amazed at feel and distance that they got from my Masterflex 48 Xmoi combo. All in all you guys created a truly unique shaft that looks great, feels great and that everyone can afford. This will be my "go to" driver shaft from here on out. And I will never let torque measurements influence my decision to buy a shaft. Oh by the way, did you get that I also loved The XMOI Driver Head (It killed all those driver's I listed above especially the 909D2 and it only cost $60). Anyway just my two cents. Thanks Jeff

Charles:

Let me tell you I am glad you liked that combination, regardless of whatever the shaft specifications may have suggested. It is a reminder to all of us to trust the manufacturers because sometimes you find a diamond in the rough when you least expect it.
