The sound that gave Ping the name..
Two weeks ago I bought and received a Ping 1-A putter.
This is the famous putter that has a tuning fork like sound (piinng)
when you hit the ball. My putter does not have the tuning fork sound.
My ping 1-A goes (klunk) when I hit the ball.
This ping putter has a new true temper shaft stepless steel shaft.
Most ping 1-A putters have a stepped steel shaft.
This ping putter has a new black ping grip. The putter head
is made of magnaesebronze alloy.

Conclusion do you feel the shaft could be my problem.
Could it be installed improperly therefore giving me the
dull klunk when I hit the ball ????

The sound was more of a function of the two slits in the bottom of the putter head, although I wouldn't rule out that something in the shaft could be dampening the sound. If you have a long, thin ram rod or something slender that is fairly long, go through the vent cap in the grip. See if there is anything like a SensiCore or some other foreign debris inserted into the shaft.

Tks Jeff
I will try that, with my Ping 1-A and get back to you..
Something is putting a damper on my sound and the
tuning fork like vibs you get with a
1-A.

Something is amiss - my Ping 1-A makes a resounding "Ping" whenver I putt with it, just like a tuning fork. Everyone with whom I play gets a kick out of it - especially when I am draining my putts from everywhere. I love the putter. The best "feel" I have ever had in a putter.
