Acer Mantara Cracked

I built a driver using the Acer Mantara and have been in love with it! However, I noticed a crack on the bottom just behind the face one month after the 1 year warranty expired. I have been playing with it anyway but fear it will eventually fail.

I was going to buy another one since the price has dropped so low, but I don't want to build a club that is just going to fail.

I read in another post that someone else experienced the same crack but, under warranty. Is this a design flaw? Should I switch to a different head?

If you see a crack along the weld it is usually a result of not welding properly or over-polishing if the factory workers are not careful. In the past few years (Mantara is an older model) we have changed some of the structure and techniques to prevent this from happening as much as possible. It should be noted that no company is complete void of rejects along weld lines, but through each successive year manufacturing does improve.

Based on your reply, I purchased a new one. Durring the first round, the club head split on the side (Across the toe) starting just behind the face and extending the entire depth around to the back.

I will contact support tomorrow to deal with it under warranty, however, I am very reluctant to replace it with another that will just fail. Not to mention I may not be able to save the shaft.

I was thinking about trying the Power Play Caiman. Am I just as likely to have it fail?

Mine cracked the same place. It was replaced under warranty and the replacement has been OK for over a year. It seemed to play OK even after the crack. Everyone can have a problem but not all take care of the customer like I was.

Arrange to send the whole club if you don't have the proper tools to save the shaft. As far as the Caiman, that head has been bullet-proof.

rshuggins,

Yes, I have to agree, I have always received outstanding service from customer support. I am not complaining. I am just a little upset because I have not found a driver I like more than the Mantra (I even like the noise) , but after breaking two of them, I am a little hesitant to try a third.
