Jeff,
I have your Mantara woods with the Apollo steel shaft (APMSS-001-WRS). I love them. I hit them long and straight. My 3W gives me a good 230-240 in good conditions.
I have a Taylormade Burner driver at 9.5 degrees with a stiff graphite (50 grams) shaft. I can't hit that thing at all. I've had it since last summer and I have not figured it out. The only way I can get it straight is if I slow my swing down to maybe 90-95mph, but even then it doesn't go much further than my 3W.
Just thinking about shafts, I am thinking that I should be swinging either an Extra-Stiff graphite shaft, or a R/S steel shaft. If my 3W goes 240, I should be able to punch my Driver out there 280, or at least I think I should.
Which shaft would you recommend for control on the driver? It doesn't look like there are too many extra-stiff shafts available. Budget wise, it'd have to be between the New Image Red & the Aldila NV 65/76 ones.

The ultimate budget shaft would be the same steel shaft you have in your fairway woods. The control problem may not be in the flex at all, rather the weight. The 50g shaft is too light for your tempo. Even some of the 60g shaft may not be heavy enough. You could look at the Aldila NV75 (S-flex should be sufficient).
Oh also, a driver is not going to be 40 yards further than your 3-wood. A more realistic number might be 20-25 yards.
