Hey Jeff. A while ago I asked you about a shaft to decrease my tendency to fade or slice my driver. You suggested the Aldila NV75 or the Apollo Standard Steel I use for my Mantara woods. I decided to go with a steel shaft in my driver for consistency and accuracy.
I just bought the Apollo Standard Shaft (APMCG-001-WRS) and True Temper Dynamic Gold (UDG-001-WS3) shafts, as well as the Caiman Ti Driver.
I was hoping you could tell me what kind of difference in performance I will see with each shaft. For specifications, there's a few differences such as the Apollo is 3g heavier, Apollo is mid trajectory, and the Apollo has a smaller parallel tip at .375 of a difference. Also, the Apollo DSFI reaches all the way to 83, while DG is at 87.
Outside of the trajectory, those specs are really foreign to me. I skimmed through your Modern Guide to Shaft Fitting to see if there was information on parallel tips but I couldn't find anything. I did notice that most graphite shafts have a much smaller parallel tip.
Also, I want to verify the tip trimming for these shafts. For a Driver, stiff flex, the Apollo needs to be 1" trimmed and no trimming for the Dynamic Gold?

The ball flight of the Dynamic Gold might be a little lower, but you not see a huge difference with the naked eye. You would tip trim the Apollo shaft 1" for stiff, but on the Dynamic Gold, you would actually be tip trimming 1.5" for the bottom of bore to ground line measurement.

Hey Jeff, thanks for the quick reply. I'm a bit confused as to the tip trimming note you mentioned for the Dynamic Gold. According to the TT website, a standard bore would need a 1.25" tip trim. Is the Caiman Driver head not standard?
Can you clarify that for me? If the shaft is already 46" long, by taking 1.5 off the tip we're looking at a 44.5" driver which seems pretty short.

There really is no such thing a a standard bore because the golf industry has not collectively agreed on what it should be. In our system we would take off 1.5" because that is how far above the ground line the shaft rest. But you are more than welcome to trim off only 1.25". The different amounts to an 1/8" of a flex.
