I have a double question: I've regripped several steel shafted clubs and built a little jig to hold the club for easy scraping of the old grip tape. No problem. However, when attempting to carefully scrape tape off graphite shafts with a razor, I occasionally shaved off a bit of the shaft. Here are my questions:
1. What is the best way to easily remove tape from a graphite shaft?
2. How serious is a gouge out of the butt of a graphite shaft; will it weaken the shaft over time?
Thank you.

Without knowing how much of the shaft is gouged, it is difficult to say how badly you could have damaged the shaft. But there is a very easy solution. Try using the heat and peel method. With a heat gun, warm up the tape and then just peel the tape off. That way you won't have to worry about using a blade.

Thanks Jeff. I think I'll call that the "palm to the forehead" method. I should have thought of the heat gun.
As for the shafts, the gouges are pretty small (1/8" at most) and not very deep. The deepest gouge is towards the end of the butt. Most scrapes are no deeper than the amount you would prep the end of the shaft with abrasives. The shafts are Graphite Designs (Cobra OEM).

No gouge is a good gouge so I hope it is minimal at best as there is no way of telling if it could lead to damage further down the road.
