I am hoping you can help me select a shaft. I am looking to build a Caiman driver. I am currently playing the TM Burner that I hit pretty well, but I am curious if I can do better with a heavier shaft.
Last fall I got on a swing computer and learned my swing is in the 95 - 100 MPH range, my angle of attack is extremely steep and that as a result the backspin on my diver is bad -- in the 5500 range. This means even swinging a 9.5 degree driver i tend to balloon my drives. My average drive is in the neighborhood of 250.
I know some changes to my swing could help the angle of attack and backspin issues, but I doubt I will have the time to deal with that. Any shafts out there that can help get the ball down, and maybe cut down on the spin? Is the Caiman even the right head for what I am looking for?
Also - any thoughts on a shaft for a 5 and 7 wood? I have some heads sitting around here waiting to be built up.
Thanks in advance, Jeff!

The shaft is only going to help a little control both the trajectory and spin. It might be a simply as moving the ball slightly forward in the stance or teeing the ball up to reduce your descending angle of attack.
What shaft do you have in the TM Burner (and flex) so I can look at possible shaft suggestions?
The Caiman or Acer XK drivers would be the best two heads we have for your situation.

Thanks for the reply. The TM has the 50g shaft in it in stiff flex. I like it, but it does feel a bit "whippy" at times.
Before that I had a Hawkeye Pro driver (8.5 degree) with the Pro 3.1 shaft in it. That driver is was sporadic with, at best.
Thanks again.

If you are looking for a shaft in that weight range that is firmer and should keep the ball flight lower is the True Ace Death Stick.

I was thinking about somethign a little heavier...would the Blue Crush be a good choice in that case? Also, would it make a good shaft in a 5 and 7 wood, or should I be thinking of something with a higher launch?
Thanks again.

The Blue would be a heavier and stiffer shaft than the Death Stick and most likely much stiffer than what you are using. I cannot say without knowing more about your swing and what you have used in the past if those would make suitable shafts for you in your fairways. If you are trying to keep the spin down, you will want to have shafts that will keep the ball down rather than up. Or if you do, then you will need to look at some of the higher performance shafts like the UST Mamiya Tour Black if you want a shaft that hits the ball higher with reduced spin.
