I built a set of irons 5-PW with SK heads, Apollo standard A flex shafts and Karma gips. This was an experiment and other then the heads I used the cheapest materials. I carefully measured and cut using the ruler buddy. I took them to the range yesterday and compared them to my X-22 uniflex shaft irons. I hit the XK straighter and higher with no loss of distance. I am 68 years of age and wanted to see how A flex performed. I used Jeff's technique of staggering tape because the grips were .600 core. I am shocked but I could not be happier. I want to build another set and tweak them, however I don't know where to start. I am a stick and glue man not a builder.

Congratulations, you have crossed over to the dark side
Everybody has to get started somewhere. My first suggestion is to invest in a good clubmaking book and I think I know where you can go to get one:

Actually I am getting pretty good at it. Lot of attention to detail. I am intrigued with the website and webinars. I don't understand how those clubs perform as well or better then my X-22"s. And don't know what to upgrade to. There is and elder gentleman that is broke like me since we both are on social security. I am going to give him these clubs and build and upgraded set. Maybe with the shadow shafts. Scared to try a forged head just now but may try one clubhead.

Most people think there is something magical about a name brand product. Having worked in this industry for a quarter of century I can tell you that the ball does not care whose name is on the sole of the club, name on the shaft label or the grip. Good mass distribution in a head is a physical law that is unbiased to brand. The A-flex may very well suit your swing than the Uniflex (basically an R-flex). If you do decide to go to the Shadow in A-flex, you will notice that the shaft will be a lot lighter and a little bit more flexible.
