I suggest you develop a line of clubs that are more upright, and even produce them in sets.

Background: I have relatively short arms for my height. I am 6'2", with wrists 38-38.25 from the floor (depending on shoes). I found the Ping website recommends their maroon (4.5 upright) and 1/4 long. When I had hit off their cart a few years back they had recommended maroon (5 upright) and 1/2 long. I have a set of your PC3 irons in 3 upright, and I was going to cut them 1 long, but although I installed the shafts, events overtook my plans and I never cut them. I am working up my plans to cut them shortly, but lost my spreadsheet where I had the numbers all figured out.

Logic for the product: Beginners who need flatter clubs have a relatively easy option of buying women's clubs. Those who are taller have a more difficult road, as thee only readily available upright club sets are Pings, not a beginner-priced product. You would be in a niche, all to yourselves, and could store brand if needed. What I suggest is a 4 upright, 3/4 long club, slightly stiff shaft, with lighter than typical heads so the swing weights are more typical. This club would be big enough to satisfy a wide range of taller golfers, or golfers with short arms, and would not be unwieldy. Of course it is a bad fit for those needing less than 2 upright, but they are relatively well-served by the run-of-the mill clubs.

These clubs would be a better fit than regular clubs for around 15% of males. If you could be the product of choice for just one out of six of these golfers, your sales would be around 2.5% of total beginners sets, nothing to sneeze at, and you would be starting beginners in your product line, ensuring future sales. You could even offer discounts to introductory golf classes at colleges. Once your brand has established itself in more golfers' minds as a go-to brand, you can sell more product in other lines.

When I worked for Dynacraft, we did do well with the PC3 line in the standard and 3ยบ upright lines. That was several years ago now. If we had a more limited product line like Ping does, it would make it easier to justify the cost of tooling up a completely different set. The other problem is the closer a person is to being a beginning golfer, the less likely they are to get fitted or know that the clubs can be fitted to them. The PC3's weren't exactly a large club with a lot of offset - that what appealed to the better golfer.

Thanks for the suggestion.
