Also - off topic - I'm building a driver for a friend, he has a .350 head and wants to use a DG .335 shaft in it. I've never built anything .350 before so I was curious... is it safe to use the plastic adapter sold on the site, or am I much better off using a brass shim? Does the answer change if the shaft were graphite instead of steel?

The FR1017 reducing ferrule is perfectly fine and designed specifically for this purpose. It is compatible with any shaft material.
