The Acer XV Ultimate Thriver is a full 10 to 20 grams heavier than a normal driver to allow from anywhere between 1 to 2 inches shorter for a more controllable playing length that now has the proper amount of weight in their hands. The addition of the weight produces even greater forgiveness making this the ultimate in control off the tee. Plus with more weight in the head will transfer more momentum to the ball and establish a better swing tempo. The Acer XV Ultimate Thriver comes with 3 different weights (2, 7 and 12 grams) giving customers options for length and swingweight not possible with any other driver on the market.

Product Questions

Should I tip the shaft as a 3 wood like the XS THRIVER
Question by: KEN MACKAY on Jan 9, 2017, 1:54 AM
Hi Ken,

Yes, that is what we would suggest to offset the additional head weight.
Answer by: Richard Lin on Jan 10, 2017, 1:01 AM
What are your thoughts on a 45 gram Graffaloy pro launch shaft rather than a 65 gram or so shaft. I would think a lighter shaft will have a higher launch angle.
Question by: JIm on Dec 22, 2016, 9:20 AM
Jim,

That light of a shaft would indeed hit the ball higher than the same brand/make in a heavier weight option. The key to using a shaft of this weight is your tempo. Golfers with short swings or quick tempos don't fare well with shafts this light, they were may for the person with the long, full fluid swing.

What color is the crown? Can't tell from the picture
Question by: Jim on Dec 23, 2016, 8:59 AM
Jim,

It is matte black.
Answer by: Richard Lin on Dec 24, 2016, 8:12 AM
It looks as if your lengths are incorrect. 210g is the weight of a standard 3W head, and the standard length of a 3W is 43" with a swing weight of about D1. With the Thriver weights ranging from 210g to 220g wouldn't the standard lengths then range from 43", 42.5", and 42"?
Question by: Nate on Dec 21, 2016, 7:53 AM
Nate,

Part of the explanation of the length discrepancy can be found in in the clubs’ respective sizes. The face profile of a driver (or our Thriver) is much deeper or taller than a 3 wood. The reasoning is it is designed to hit a ball off an elevated tee. In contrast, a fairway wood is shallow as it needs to hit the ball primarily off the fairway or out of the rough. As such, the deeper face will possess a higher center of gravity (CG) or closer to the fulcrum point on a swingweight scale. Thus is will produce a lighter swingweight even though the two heads are the same weight. This is why the Thriver is suggested to have a longer length.

If I ask really nicely and make puppy dog eyes as well, will you please make a lefty version as well?
Question by: Casper on Dec 22, 2016, 8:43 AM
Hi Casper,

We will have to see. While all our RH Thrivers have done very, very well, the one time we brought out a LH version didn't gain the traction we thought it would.

Hi just read an article about Jimmy Walker's new short driver - the specs are as follows: Shaft: Aldila Rogue Silver Limited Edition 80X (42 inches, tipped 1.5 inches), D1 Swing Weight.

Would it work with this clubhead?
Question by: Rommel on Feb 9, 2017, 6:59 PM
Rommel,

With the heavier weight, you could achieve the D1 swingweight at 43" or slightly less with that weight shaft.
Answer by: Richard Lin on Feb 10, 2017, 6:02 PM
Does this clubhead conform to the rules of golf?
Question by: Adam on Aug 14, 2017, 10:10 AM
Adam,

We have not submitted it to the USGA for a formal ruling. However, we have done our due diligence and there is not anything in the design that would make it non-conforming.
Answer by: Richard Lin on Aug 15, 2017, 10:08 AM
What causes the XV Thriver to launch lower, thus requiring 12 degrees loft to achieve the same launch as a lighter driver head with 10.5 degrees of loft? Is there a CG shift relative to the regular XV Driver?
Question by: Adam Gennett on Jun 30, 2017, 11:34 AM
Adam,

The reason is two-fold. By having the additional weight lower in the head, this has some effect on reducing the spin. More importantly, we suggest tip trimming based on a 3-wood to offset the additional weight. By shorting the parallel tip section it tends to launch the ball lower than if you had trimmed the shaft as a driver.

I would like to build this driver, but looking for a shaft recommendation. Im currently playing a Callaway X2 Hot driver 11* with an Aldia ATX55 r flex shaft at 45". My iron swing speed is 76mph. My tempo is slight past medium to aggressive. My current misses is a solid right shot. But, having good success with the above callaway. Thanks, Dynacraft Grad October 2000.
Question by: Denver Clark on May 10, 2021, 9:11 AM
Aldila never came out with the Tour Blue in a 55 gram weight for the aftermarket, so that was a special make up for Callaway and one where there is limited information. Of the current Aldila shafts, I would suggest the NVS NXT 55 Orange as most suitable. In another line, possibly UST's V2 55..

Do I need to tip the shaft more for this thriver?
Question by: Norboo on Mar 4, 2017, 12:14 PM
We suggest tip trimming as a 3 wood. If you you make the club longer with the 2g screw, you could tip trim like a 2 wood or if using the 12g screw and a shorter length, you could tip trim as a 4 wood, but it might result into a lower ball flight.

Let me say what I really love about this driver
My favorite part of this driver is that it is the only driver head in the current 2023 Lineup that is offered in 12° and 0° Square Face Angle. That being said, so many of my customers prefer the look, sound and feel of this club during the club fittings I run here. If most drivers sound like a thud-y cowbell, this Acer XV Ultimate Thriver sounds like a bright crash cymbal at impact, while the feel of this club is soft and warm. It really is one of the straightest hitting driver components to ever be tested at Jaxon Golf. I was very excited to put my winning driver combination together to settle any tee club debate for my own bag, with this Ultimate Thriver mounted with a stylish, retrofitted BB&F ferrule on a stiff silver stick of shiny steel, a True Temper Dynamic Gold Lite 115g X100 Wood shaft, yes, yes...that my next day's client bought from me right out of my bag bwomp bwomp. C'est la vie so they say. What a stiff and stout 43.5" shillelagh war club! If i didn't also call out the clean looks...those are very pleasing to the eye. I think I'd like to see a more traditional low-key dot alignment marker on the top instead of the Acer logo alignment, or a triangle, chevron, tri-dot arrangement, etc. could all be cool moving into models beyond the SR1. The bottom line is that clients are trying and buying this club with regularity, and that speaks volumes of brands that have no ambassadors outside of someone like me. This gets my "buy with confidence" mark of approval and 5-star rating across all categories of look, sound, feel, performance, demand, price point, reliability. I'm honestly just so amazed that I'm the first individual to review and rate this club.

Hit'em less often and in the direction you intended. (I don't like sayin', "Hit'em straight" when so many golfers...just don't, lol and they aren't all necessarily bad for doing so, yes? Looking at you, Bubba. Cheers.
