The Acer XV Ultimate Thriver is a full 10 to 20 grams heavier than a normal driver to allow from anywhere between 1 to 2 inches shorter for a more controllable playing length that now has the proper amount of weight in their hands. The addition of the weight produces even greater forgiveness making this the ultimate in control off the tee. Plus with more weight in the head will transfer more momentum to the ball and establish a better swing tempo. The Acer XV Ultimate Thriver comes with 3 different weights (2, 7 and 12 grams) giving customers options for length and swingweight not possible with any other driver on the market.

Please note this requires an extra 5-10 business days of custom assembly time before shipping.

Product Questions

Hello. While I hit most of my clubs reasonably straight, I still push (and sometimes slice) my driver. My instructor says I need more loft and a shorter club length to help me get square. Since I already hit a high ball, I want a club that will provide a more boring ball flight and more roll. My question is, if I cut another inch of length (men's std -1") what shaft would you recommend to get the ball flight I want? Also which weight would you use? Any thoughts on whether my plan even makes sense? Thanks!
Question by: Robert Floyd on Jan 5, 2017, 8:51 AM
Robert,

This club is already designed to be 1-2" shorter than standard depending the weight that is used. That in itself might be enough to keep you on the straight and narrow. For 44", I might start out with a 2 gram and also try the 7g screw. At 43.5", start out with the 7g screw and play around with both the 2g and 12g to see which you hit best. Lastly, at 43", start out with the 12g weight and also try the 7g screw.

When golfers say they hit the ball "high" often times it is still not high enough or a factor of pushing, fading or slicing the ball. The key is to look at your straight shots. If you are not getting any roll, then the loft is likely an issue aside from technique.

Thanks for the prompt reply. Ok, shortening the club further may be overkill, so let's say I retain the std length (43.5"). In that case, I still have a question regarding the proper shaft. I hate to take a wild guess out of all the choices available. Can you tell me which shaft or type of shaft would best tend towards a lower/more roll type of scenario?

FWIW, I have used a Hireko driver before; I had a Power Play Caiman, also shortened for control, that I hammered and hit fairly straight. Alas, it came apart at the seams, but I loved the feel and am hoping for something similar or better with this newer and higher tech driver. Your thoughts?

Thanks,
Bob
Question by: Robert Floyd on Jan 5, 2017, 9:36 AM
Bob,

You want to be careful about getting a shaft that is labeled "low launch" because often they are stiffer tipped products which may in turn may make your push (or sometimes slice) even worse. Since you hit the Caiman well, I would use possibly the same shaft or one similar to it. If I knew what you had, I might also be able to suggest other possibilities.
Answer by: Richard Lin on Jan 6, 2017, 9:01 AM
The Caiman had an Aldila Gamer R shaft. What do you think would be a comparable shaft from the current selection? Thanks, again, for your help.
Question by: Robert Floyd on Jan 5, 2017, 3:22 PM
Robert,

A short list would be Aldila's NVS 65, Aerotech Powercoil 65 and UST 65 Gold.

I would like to order this club: what is it's standard length? Does it come with all the back weights? Thank you.
Question by: Ron Lewis on Feb 24, 2017, 9:34 AM
Ron,

Standard length for men is 43.5" and it does come with all 3 weights.

What is the Standard length of the Acer XV Ultimate Thriver - Custom Assembled?
Question by: Lee on Feb 25, 2017, 8:21 AM
43.5" for men's standard.

Looking into this driver for my mother. Is this a decent driver for someone with a slow swing speed? Is the prolaunch blue shaft the way to go if she has little height to her ball flight?
Question by: JT on Jun 10, 2017, 6:21 AM
JT,

This driver is more for control or for those who wish or need a shorter than normal driver. If you are looking at higher launch angle off the tee, you should look for more loft. The Acer XV has 14º loft and designed for standard assembly length. The Acer XS Thriver is similar to the Ultimate Thriver (heavier and shorter) also have 14º loft compared to 12º for the Ultimate. There is also the iBella Obsession driver at 13º.

The Grafally ProLaunch Blue 45 would be the lightest shaft available if speed and distance are at center stage as well.

Can I order this Thriver with a 41" length?
Question by: Forney Johnson on Apr 14, 2021, 8:58 AM
Our standard men's length is 43.5" and ladies standard length is 42.5". We limit the options in the drop box as not to confuse customers. If you want to order it at that length, please phone in the order at 800-367-8912 and request that length (men's minus 2.5"). There is no guarantee on how well it will play at that length as the swingweight will be low.

Hi...thinking about giving one of these thrivers a whirl. The "ultimate" one. And customizing it for some things like shaft especially. Since the clubhead is 10 or 20g heavier than the norm, would the CB Grafalloy Supercharged Blue be the best possible choice? Seems to be the most expensive option but won't matter if the best option. Isn't it designed especially to be used for longer length assemblies or heavier heads? And what would be a great 2nd choice if that is the best though?
Senior/A flex.
Question by: Roy K. on Sep 19, 2017, 12:31 PM
Roy,

We would need more information about your swing (speed and tempo) as well as other shafts you have hit well to be able to determine what might be a good candidate. We tip trim the shaft as if it were a 3-wood to offset the additional head weight.
Answer by: Richard Lin on Sep 20, 2017, 12:09 PM
How is getting a regular driver head (not a "thriver") and having it built for me to the standard thriver length of 43.5 or 44" with an appropriate shaft and appropriate tip and/or butt trimming be different than just getting the "thriver"? How would they play differently/
Question by: Roy K. on Sep 20, 2017, 11:29 AM
Roy,

Headweight, length, swingweight and flex are all interrelated. By making a standard head shorter, the swingweight will be much lighter and the frequency will increase (become stiffer) by at least 1/2 of a flex with adjusting tip trimming. This will lead to a lower ball flight and possibly make it harder to control as you may not know where the head is during the swing.
