The Dynacraft Driving Iron features a thin, special vacuum heat treated, high-strength forged 17-4 stainless steel face with variable thickness to push high COR to the maximum limits. The hollow-bodied construction positions weight low and rearward for advanced perimeter weighting and a more piercing driving trajectory than a comparable lofted fairway wood. It is designed primarily as a control club off of the tee, but can be an option for approach shots from the fairway from preferred lies.

Product Questions

What does the vaccum heat treated process mean as far as playabiliy goes? If there's a link that would be easier than explaining here please point the way, thanks!
Question by: Keith Wooten on Jan 31, 2014, 9:26 PM
Keith,

I don't have a link, but the process involves taking the face and exposing it to a time-temperature sequences in order to change the mechanical and/or corrosion properties or in this case tempering the material to make it harder and higher strength.

How should the iron shaft be tipped for this club? I will be using a TT Dynalite gold iron shaft.
Question by: Darrell on Jan 29, 2014, 11:55 AM
Darrell,

Treat the Dynacraft Driving Iron as if it were a #2 iron for both tip trimming and length.

Please tell me you will be offering this club in different lofts soon? This is an amazing club especially at this price point. Hope to buy another soon!
Question by: Keith Wooten on Mar 2, 2014, 3:24 PM
Keith,

We are still discussing the option of offering different lofts.

The video and the other comments here discuss this club as a tee club. How would it compare to a "normal" long iron? Would it be easier to hit than a traditional long-iron off the fairway, in the same way a hybrid would be. Or would a person be better off looking at a different option as a long-iron/hybrid replacement. I, like most people, have some difficulty with my 3- and 4-irons, even though clubhead speed isn't a real issue for me (105 MPH driver SS). So I'm looking for an option here, but I haven't liked any of the hybrids I have hit.
Question by: Kelly on Feb 1, 2016, 3:34 PM
The driving iron is a hollow-bodied long iron with a thin reactive face. Because the face is thinner and uses less weight, the extra weight was positioned lower and deeper within the head to make it more forgiving. A hybrid would still be more forgiving because it will have a wider footprint, but at least this series is more forgiving than a traditional iron.

Do you have plans to offer a Dynacraft Driving Iron 27 degree Clubhead?

If so, is there a tentative date when that loft "might" be available?
Question by: Kevin Gonyo on Dec 16, 2014, 7:57 AM
Kevin,

Sorry, there are no plans of expanding the line with higher lofts. However, you might look at the new Dynacraft Prophet CB irons as they share the same face technology.
Answer by: Richard Lin on Dec 17, 2014, 7:12 AM
should this be shafted with a hybrid shaft, or an iron shaft
Question by: gdsdad48 on Jul 23, 2016, 1:18 PM
The shape of the head is more iron than hybrid so a shaft designated for an iron is probably your best bet.
Answer by: Richard Lin on Jul 24, 2016, 1:07 PM
Would the Apollo 85 steel shaft be a good match for this club head? Or would the launch be too high? The Apollo 85 appears to have similar specs to the True Temper 85g shafts I have in my current irons.
Also, how would you describe the forgiveness quality of this driving iron?
If I did get the Apollo 85 in Reg. flex I assume I would not need to trim the tip. Is this correct?
Thanks.
Question by: Phil Gaitens on Jul 31, 2014, 6:26 PM
Phil,

Really any iron shaft can be used in that driving iron, it is just a matter of how good of a fit it is to the player for the weight, stiffness and ball flight. The 85g shaft in your iron is a high launching shaft. This head is more forgiving than a regular iron because it is hollow bodied and the weight is out toward its perimeter. For the 18º, there is no tip trimming for that shaft, but for the the 21º you would tip trim 1/2" for 1" for the 24º model.
Answer by: Richard Lin on Aug 1, 2014, 6:08 PM
I am looking at this club head @ 24* to replace a Cleveland MT 588 5 iron. The preliminary specs as far as loft and offset seem very similar. How do you feel the 24* club will do from the fairway? The MT is very easy to hit and I am hoping that this could be a good substitute. Thank you!
Question by: Will on Jan 8, 2015, 10:55 AM
Will,

The 24º is a substitute for a 4-iron, although some of modern 5-irons are creeping up to the same loft. These are pretty easy to hit compared to a standard iron as there is an awful lot of weight both low and rearward to get the ball off of the ground.

Perfect safety off the tee box
I have been in a major slump with my 3 wood, and I needed a club to hit safely on shorter tee shots, or just to take bunkers out of play. My driver is about 260 yards, this one goes only about 220 yards for me, but it hits very accurate and is a very confident club off the tee for me!

    Very pleasant surprise
I had zero expectations for this club, I bought the head and married it with a projectX red stiff hybrid shaft. Wow! Good bye hybrid! I had planned to build and sell this club but I'm selling my King Cobra 21 degree hybrid instead. Straighter, longer and more forgiving. Perfect launch, low spin, gets you lots of roll out, just what I needed!

Great club head, but poor assembly
I bought the 21 degree and had Hireko assemble it. I love the club, but the epoxy they used was poor. After a month of use, the head twisted and I had to re-epoxy it with a better epoxy. It appeared they used a quick set epoxy, which hardly ever lasts.
