I ORDERED THIS SHAFT WANTING A STIFF SHAFT IT IS LISTED AS R/S FLEX HOW DO YOU TRIM IT TO BE A STIFF SHAFT IS IT LENGTH THIS IS FOR A DRIVER
Question by: JOSEPH pinitsch on Dec 6, 2013, 4:39 PM
Joseph,

For an R-flex driver, all material would be taken off of the butt end. For stiff flex, you would tip trim 1" and then butt trim to length.
Answer by: Richard Lin on Dec 7, 2013, 4:12 PM
When trimming for 3-6 hybrids for R flex the trimming chart shows H1 & H2 tip trim at 0. The XF hybrid head chart shows length steps of 1/2" just like the irons. Just want to confirm that no tip trimming is correct for 3-6 hybrids.

Thanks.
Question by: Leo Jansen on Apr 18, 2016, 12:01 PM
Leo,

The Acer XF hybrids weigh the same as the corresponding numbered iron. So if you are trimming the shafts for the #3 hybrid, treat this as if were a 3-iron for both tip trimming and length. In this case 0.5" tip trim and 39.5" for men's standard length. The H1 and H2 designations were for special lightweight hybrids that required a 0.370" or 0.355" taper tip shaft and were lighter than even a 1-iron. Those are rare to find, but they did exist, therefore we needed to add them to the chart just in case a customer encountered one.

How much do I trim off the tip (driver) of the Apollo Shadow graphite for a senior flex? I plan to cut it total length of 45 inches.
Thank you

Steve,

If you bought the A/L wood shaft, then tip trim 1" for a senior flex driver.

I have a Adams Super S Idea 3 hybrid. Do I treat it like a 3 iron for tip and length?

Thanks

Question by: Harold on May 9, 2017, 8:03 PM
Harold,

You will need to weigh the head. You would treat the club for tip trimming and length as a 3-iron only if the head weighs the same as a 3-iron (@242 grams). I believe it will be less though. If the weight is closer to 235g, treat as a 2-iron and if closer to 229g, treat as a 1-iron.

3 hybrid and 4 hybrid.
Both weigh 216 gr.

tip and length for both.

Thanks
Question by: Maynard on Jun 1, 2017, 8:50 AM
Maynard,

Are these using a 0.335" or 0.370" shaft? And what flex do you want to end up with since these are combination flex shafts?
Answer by: Richard Lin on Jun 2, 2017, 8:06 AM
Hireko shows tip trim 1' for driver and 1.5" for three wood (senior)

Another web site shows 2" for driver and 2.5" for three wood (senior)

Would you please address this dilemma.

Thanks
Question by: Maynard on Jun 1, 2017, 9:12 AM
Maynard,

Our website is correct. By trimming as per the suggested tip trimming it makes the frequencies fall in line with the Shadow UL. You can certainly tip trim 1" more and that will change the frequency by 5 cpm or about a half a flex.

RE. the question on the 3 hybrid and 4 hybrid, both 226 gr.

both are .370 and I want to end up with senior flex.

Thanks
Question by: maynard on Jun 1, 2017, 12:27 PM
Maynard,

For senior flex, both would be 1" tip trimming and a overall length of 40.75 or possibly 40.5" since both weigh the same. Please note, the shaft length is only 40", so when you tip trim the shaft and put it back into the head with the grip cap, you may be 40" to possibly 40.5" depending on the bottom of bore to ground line measurement. So you may need an extender to get to your desired length.

I would like to install APGSH2FL-001-WA wood shaft into a ping g hybrid (.335 hosel). I want it to play at A flex. how much would i need to tip trim?
Question by: RANDY LAFOONE on Oct 31, 2020, 7:18 PM
Randy,

That shaft will not fit without some sort of shim, plus you will have an issue with a ferrule fitting flush with the OD of the hosel. Plus, I can't tell you how much to trim unless I know what the head weight is.

I asked previously about tip trimming APGSH2FL-001-WA wood shaft for a ping g series hybrid. It is a 3 hybrid clubhead (.335 ID Hosel). I estimate the head weight at 230grams.
Question by: RANDY LAFOONE on Oct 31, 2020, 7:45 PM
Randy,

That is the same weight as a 7-wood so we would recommend tip trimming 2.5" for A-flex.

Not a question, a Real Life observations. Story: a friend, lady, 64 years, couch potato and her sports background is Watching her son play soccer at 4 yrs old, are chess and backgammon sports?
Anyway I built her a complete set of clubs using Apollo Shadow FL White in all her Hybrids, Irons and wedges. She dropped her score from 78 for 9 holes, to 63.

PS Blast from the past, She was so tickled that she found a $4 club at the local used junk store, a used ACER MANTERA 5 Hybrid 26 degrees , probably sold by Hireko, lol, many years ago..
I'll re-shaft it, and spine the shaft, add a new WINN grip, and equal the swingweights.
Testing for the Launch Monitor, Mantra 26 degrees, VS. MOONWOOD 8 25 degrees with a Apollo Shadow FL shaft and PURE grip. How will the $ fall?
I'm not a so-called professional, I just build clubs.
MOTTO: Apollo makes everything easier {read their history}. If Apollo promoted the Apollo Shadow Featherlite, We'd all be paying triple prices, similar to Titleist & Callaway.
