Hireko's Standard Golf Club Length Chart

Below are our men's and ladies' standard length charts for steel and graphite shafts and act as a guideline for each of the club head categories. Please take note of head weights as there are no industry standards. Use the head weight column to base your length, especially for specialty drivers (like a Thriver) and high lofted fairway woods. Note, standard length charts may vary slightly from one manufacturer to another.

The suggested standard length golf club charts below are based upon lengths required for common or industry accepted swingweights ranges based on the head weights listed. Due to the wide range of shaft weights and shaft balance points available to club makers, variations in these lengths may be necessary to achieve your desired swingweight.

GOLF CLUB LENGTH FOR HYBRIDS, IRONS & WEDGES

For the length on all hybrids, use the clubhead weight to determine the proper length. Not all hybrids will weigh the same, thus special attention must be made for this category. For example, a #3 hybrid or Rescue clubhead weighs @ 235g.  This would be the same as a standard 2 iron weight, thus the length should be that of a 2 iron.

What about the length of single length golf clubs?  Again, measure or look up the weight from the manufacturer.  If the head weights are all @ 271g, then you make them all the same length of a 7-iron.  If the head weights are @ 278g, then you would make them all 8-iron length. That's how easy it is to know what the proper length of a golf club should be.

What is the standard length of a Putter for both men and women?

Unlike drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, irons and wedges, putters are sold as unisex, so they are sized accordingly to the player's height, posture, and personal preference. The most common lengths of stock putters are 35", 34" and 33" with the latter two geared more toward women golfers, but not exclusively. An Arm lock putter generally ranges between 39 and 42 inches. A putter assembled with a graphite shaft is generally made to the exact length as a steel-shafted putter.

What is the standard length of a Chipper?

This is a similar situation to putters where a chipper is sold mostly as a unisex golf club. Therefore, the length of a golf chipper should be based on the weight of the head.  For example, if the chipper's clubhead weight is @ 315g, then you would make the length the same as a putter. However, if the chipper clubhead weighed @ 285g, then you make it the same length of a steel-shafted 9-iron.
