It has to do with how you deliver the putter face at impact. The putter has 3 degrees loft. If you have a forward lean or strike the putt with the ball slightly back in the stance, the dynamic loft will be less than 3 degrees and it should skid less. If you have the ball too forward in the stance (it doesn't have to be much), then you can have more than 3 degrees loft at impact and a higher chance the ball will hop and skip. Excessive wrist action can also cause this to happen.
