Can graphite shafts be installed, and if so, what is recommended length?
Question by: Ron Cooley on Sep 26, 2016, 4:38 AM
Ron,

Yes, graphite shafts can be installed. As far as length, that depends upon the weight and balance point of the shaft. In most cases you may have to make the iron 1/2" longer to achieve the same swingweight unless you use a tip weight to add weight to the head. There are some shafts that are heavier and have a lower balance point allowing you to make them the same length as you would steel.

Question by: R. Landry on Sep 26, 2016, 2:09 PM

The graphite shafts are 40" and parallel is 5.5", what will cutting 3+ inches off the tip
do to the flex of the club shaft? Does the shaft length have to be 37" if I did not order any bending? I am 5'-7", 67yrs old and from what I can tell I need between a senior and a regular shaft flex and I hit better with a little shorter irons than a 7 iron. I want to do it the correct way but I wondered if they could have a 1/2" off the grip end and be 36.5" long? I feel that I am a little to upright with 37" length for my normal swing.
Thanks four your help,
Greg
Question by: Greg on Sep 26, 2016, 8:36 PM
Greg,

First of all, I will need to know what shaft (and flex) it is to know if 3" is what would normally be tip trimmed for the 7-iron.

As far as length, with a 7-iron 37" would yield a normal swingweight. In most cases with graphite you would have to make the club either 1/2" longer or add weight to the tip to create a normal swingweight. If you went to 36.5", then your swingweight will be pretty light. Personally I would select the length you are most comfortable with and then adjust the lie angle accordingly.

Are the heads the same size as well as the same weight. What is the clubhead length, toe height and sole width?
Question by: Jim McLain on Sep 27, 2016, 7:20 AM
Jim,

The heads all have the same weight and blade length (85mm), but toe height will vary with loft. Sole width on the 7-iron is roughly 19mm.

are these a good fit for seniors with a senior shaft?
Question by: Rick on Sep 29, 2016, 5:16 PM
Rick,

These can be for any golfer who's goal is to hone a repeatable swing. As far as shaft flex, that is a determinate upon the strength and tempo of the golfer.

What shaft brand would you recommend for these, need very consistent frequency.
low,medium, and high priced ?
Question by: Bob Barrette on Oct 3, 2016, 9:57 AM
Bob,

I would need to know what preferences you have for weight and trajectory and what shafts you have fared well with in the past.

Being make of 431 SS, would I be correct in assuming they can be adjusted two degrees +/- for loft and lie?
Question by: Jack on Oct 15, 2016, 3:10 PM
Jack,

That would be correct.

Is the loft and lie bendable on these heads?
Question by: Ron on Oct 17, 2016, 6:24 PM
Ron,

We do offer the service of pre-bending the lie angle by selecting from the drop down menu on the Lie Adjustment. However, we do not offer the service for loft adjustment (even though it would be bendable as well).

Could you suggest a Graphite shaft for a man who is 63, new golfer with mid to low swing speed. This will be his first set of clubs and I think having to learn only one swing for the irons and hybrids will be easier for him.
Question by: Mike Glass on Nov 9, 2016, 10:24 AM
Mike,

There could be numerous shafts to choose from. The problem is slow to mid swing speed is not precise enough and if he is just beginning might be from lack of technique more so than strength. Does he a long, fluid swing, short and quick or somewhere in between? All that matters from a weight and stiffness perspective. Plus is there any price range you want to say within?

How do you tip trim for SL irons?
I am using an Apollo shaft APMCG-ISR.
I am short so I will be making my clubs 36 inches.
Logic tells me the standard trim chart does not apply.

The trim chart for this shaft in stiff flex is as follows:
Code
IH1

4i
1.5 in.

5i
2 in.

6i
2.5 in.

7i
3 in.

8i
3.5 in.

9i
4 in.

Wedges
4 in.
Question by: steve on Nov 18, 2016, 5:29 PM
Steve,

You will tip trim each head as if it were a 7-iron. Making the clubs 1" shorter than normal will make the swingweight light (@ C5). As a result they will be stiffer without adding additional weight via lead tape or weighting down the shaft. If you don't adjust for the swingweight, then you may want to take 1" less (2" total) for each head in the set.
