would tip trimming the 4 iron as if it were a 6 iron instead of a 7 iron improve the low launch that i hear complaints about?
Question by: Lou on Jan 7, 2017, 3:32 PM
Lou,

At most, that difference is only 1/2" which may make the shaft 2-3 cpm less. This difference will likely not yield a noticeable difference in ball flight.
Answer by: Richard Lin on Jan 8, 2017, 3:01 PM
Thank You for the reply. I have only an beginner to intermediate knowledge of club building and appreciate the expertise.

What would be the difference in trajectory if I were to butt trim Apollo Acculite shafts instead of tip trimming as recommended. I would think that would allow for higher trajectory across the board. Or not? Or another question is what would the ramifications be if I tip trimmed the 7-LW and butt trimmed the 4-6? Would it cause a gapping problem between the 6 and 7 iron.
Question by: renhoekk on Jan 9, 2017, 1:29 PM
You would see a higher ball flight the more you left on the tip as the shaft would get more flexible. The downside is this could also affect the accuracy you get. The Pinhawk SL irons are designed to be tip trimmed as if they were all 7-irons. As far as trimming certain ones different, it is hard to say if you would get a distance gap but you would surely notice a difference in feel. That is the whole purpose of these clubs is to have one feel and one swing.

Can these irons still be bent by my local club maker, a friend inadvertently ordered a -2 instead of a +2.
Question by: Karloz on Mar 26, 2017, 10:16 PM
Katloz,

Yes as long as they are within +/- 2º of the stated specifications.

I have been playing these for over two years now and have an older set of these with the 5 degree gaps. Why the change to a more traditional 4 degrees at the wedge end? Also, have you updated the grooves yet? The original design has those crappy partial grooves instead of full face grooves. You could really improve their performance with better grooves, as I have to constantly touch up the grooves on my 8-PW. Also, I think if you made the 5-7 at 6 iron length, and 8-GW at 9 iron length (with appropriate headweighting) they would really be a great set. As is, I do like my Pinhawks but can see room for improvement after playing them for two years. Also, please forgive the crassness of this next question, but why twice as much as a comparable clubhead like the Acer XS pro? Demand seems high as you can't keep stock (wanting to buy another set but you don't have all the clubheads in stock)
Question by: PeteT on Apr 12, 2017, 9:17 AM
Pete,

The current Pinhawk SL models have the USGA conforming grooves. Since they are designed for single length, it would defeat the purpose of making them at two lengths. The reason why they are more expensive is they are a design that is not designed by Hireko Golf, but rather Value Golf who invested into tooling and whom we buy and resell them. We receive these on a continuous basis so we should be getting more at any time - most to fill back orders.

I recently built the 4, 8, 9, P, A, and L wedge Pinhawk SL irons. I am excited by their potential for accuracy and distance. However, I would like complete the set. When will you have the 5, 6, and 7 iron heads available? Thanks for your excellent work.

Can I use this head with general length shaft (ex, P->35.5". 9->36". 8-> 36.5". 7->37". 6->37.5"......) ?
What will change to this club ? Distance or anything ?
Question by: Kim Sang-won on Jun 29, 2021, 12:24 AM
This set was designed for single length only as the head weights and lie angles are all the same. If you attempt to use this as a traditional length set, then irons longer than a #7 will be very head heavy and those shorter will be much lighter and play stiffer. By doing so, you will have an unplayable set in our opinion.
